“Going to take advantage of it” – Yair Rodriguez wants title shot after UFC Long Island fight against Brian Ortega

Yair Rodriguez aims for title shot next

Yair Rodriguez is heading into the UFC Long Island main event fight expecting a title shot after his win against Brian Ortega. The Mexican fighter is confident that he will be next in line for a title shot in a stacked division if he manages to get past Ortega this weekend.

UFC Fight Night is heading to Long Island this weekend. After two Fight Night events inside the UFC Apex octagon, fight fans will have an opportunity to watch the elite UFC fighters live at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York. The upcoming Fight Night event will be headlined by one of the best matchups in the UFC featherweight division, Brian Ortega vs Yair Rodriguez.

Brian and Yair are ranked #2 and #3 respectively and the winner of this fight is most likely to get a title shot. Rodriguez has been craving for a title shot for a long time and had the opportunity to fight former champ Max Holloway in a title eliminator fight last year. However, Rodriguez failed to get a win against Holloway and is now looking to do the needful against “T-City” to guarantee that title contender spot.

“Well I think it could mean a title shot,” Rodriguez said talking to TMZ Sports in a recent interview promoting his upcoming fight. “He already fought twice for the title and I haven’t fought for the title yet. I know there’re some other guys in the line but I am the number three ranked guy in the world for f**king years already so, this is the opportunity you know.”

Ortega is currently ranked at #2 and is coming off a title fight defeat to Alexander Volkanovski. Yair, on the other hand, is coming off a loss to the recent title contender, Max Holloway in 2021. Both the fighters of the UFC Long Island main event are determined to call for a title shot after a win this weekend in Long Island.

There is never a boring Yair Rodriguez fight. The Mexican fighter has given the fans amazing performances inside the octagon and is one of the most dynamic fighters in the featherweight division. The fighter has only two losses in the UFC octagon and will look to secure his title shot with a win against T-City.
