Last week, Zhang Weili shocked the fight fans when a video of her effortlessly lifting Francis Ngannou went viral. In the clip, Weili was with Ngannou and both were having fun. Seconds later, the Chinese easily lifted Ngannou from his legs. The UFC heavyweight champion, who is currently going through recovery posted the clip on his official Twitter account and was extremely impressed by Weili’s strength.
Weili is currently all set to fight Carla Esparza for the women’s Strawweight championship at UFC 281. During the pre-fight press conference, the fighter was asked about the incident involving Ngannou. A reporter jokingly asked Weili if she was wondering about moving up to the Heavyweight division.
He said: “You just picked him up in the gym last week so, when do you plan to move to the heavyweight division to face the champion.” Zhang smiled and mentioned that she would like to talk about it later after the fight. The fighter also casually explained that Ngannou wasn’t that heavy when she picked him up. “Let’s discuss about this, after this fight but I don’t think Francis is that heavy. So, if you don’t believe me you can try it,” said Weili.
Despite everything, it is still outrageous to think that Weili was able to lift someone so bigger than her size. The strength and power of the challenger are not something that Carla Esparza will take lightly.

Zhang Weili is ready to recapture the Strawweight belt at UFC 281
Zhang Weili is undoubtedly one of the most skilled fighters on the UFC women’s roster. She is a former champion and has a great experience in championship fights. Even though she lost to Rose Namajunas twice in a row, she came back and defeated Joanna Jędrzejczyk at UFC 275.
This time Weili has a different opponent in front of her and she already has the plan to fight Esparza. “Each one of my fights are gonna be a very exciting fight and I don’t fear if we wrestle or grapple,” Zhang said at the UFC 281 presser. “So, I don’t fear anything from Carla Esparza. I think her previous opponents, the mistake they made is that they get trapt by Carla, getting in her fighting rhythm,” she concluded. “So what I’m gonna do Saturday night is I’m not going to get trapt by her, I’m going to set up some traps for her.”
Stylistically it’s going to be a great fight and fans would love to see some action from both fighters. It will be interesting to see who will come out on top this Saturday night.
