2023 is turning out to be a great year for MMA. Fight fans have seen the return of Jon Jones from inactivity, and Henry Cejudo is also returning from retirement. But the return of Conor McGregor back into the spotlight is what the fight fans are getting excited about. McGregor is currently shooting TUF 31 as a coach against Michael Chandler. He is making headlines every single week. This week, however, he has made a historical headline.
Conor McGregor became the first UFC and MMA fighter on the list of the Highest Paid Athletes of All-Time. This is a historic achievement for the sport of MMA. McGregor is ranked No. 33 All-Time, according to the report. He earned 530 million dollars, which became 615 million when adjusted for inflation. McGregor is the only representative from MMA, as there were seven boxers on the list representing Combat Sports.
The list compiled by Sportico takes into consideration the money made from fight purses, PPV bonuses, lucrative brand deals, and sponsorship to estimate the amount of money earned. McGregor earned a whopping 100 million dollars for his boxing bout against Floyd Mayweather in 2017. He had sponsorship deals with Beats by Dre, Reebok, Monster Energy, and Burger King, which amounted to the money accumulated.

Conor McGregor will be in line for another massive payday as he is filming TUF 31 and will fight Michael Chandler later this year. The PPV featuring the fight between Chandler and McGregor is the most anticipated PPV of the year. McGregor will earn a huge sum, partly due to his PPV bonus, as McGregor is the biggest draw in the UFC.
Conor McGregor’s success comes from his ability to market himself
Conor McGregor finding himself on the list of the Highest Paid Athletes of All-Time is not surprising. The sport of MMA only began in the 1990s. For McGregor to be on that list, representing an infant sport (in terms of age), is marvelous. All credit goes to McGregor, as he knew how to market himself and bring millions of fans into the sport.
Conor McGregor came from Ireland, a country of 6 million people. His story’s underdog element and excellent trash-talking skills made the fight fans fall in love with McGregor. He talked big and performed excellently. He had 6 finishes in his first 7 fights in the UFC. McGregor’s mighty left hand and trash-talk made him the most marketable man in Combat Sports.
No other fighter in the UFC has come close to Conor McGregor. He is currently coaching the TUF 31 opposite Michael Chandler. McGregor vs Chandler will happen later this year, and fight fans are impatiently waiting for McGregor’s return.
