Former UFC veteran Sam Alvey is set to make his debut in Karate Combat against Brazilian Adam Rosa. After his release from UFC in August 2022, Alvey joined the new promotion Karate Combat. Before his bout against Rosa, the UFC veteran chose the “towel trick” to make weight for his fight.
Alvey had to make weight according to the light heavyweight limit. Reportedly, he faced difficulty in staying under the limit with his undergarments on. This led to him stripping down completely and using a towel to cover himself. However, the use of towels was just a ploy. The weight can be manipulated on the scale by putting some pressure on the towel. This move perfectly worked out for Alvey, who made weight according to the Karate Combat regulations.
This towel trick came out first when UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier applied it to make the 205 limit. Later, Cormier admitted to manipulating the scale by using this trick. UFC middleweight Khamzat Chimaev has also made weight using the solution. Many fans criticize this move as it comes under weight manipulation before fights.
After getting past making weight, Alvey will face off against Adam Rosa. He will make his debut in KC 41 in La Romana, in the country of Dominican Republic. After his eight-year UFC run, Alvey is about to start a new journey on September 16th.

The ‘Smilin’ Sam Alvey has announced Karate Combat as his new home after an eight-year run in the UFC. Alvey will be competing in the light-heavyweight division of the promotion. The fighter made the switch after his release from the UFC. Reportedly, Alvey’s nine-fight winless streak became the main reason for his UFC departure.
However, the 37-year-old has set his eyes on a new journey in Karate Combat. Between his UFC release and his new promotion, Alvey fought at B2 Fighting Series, where he successfully broke his losing streak. The UFC veteran has loads of experience under his belt. He has fought 54 MMA fights, giving him an upper hand in his division. Experience like this can contribute hugely to his Karate Combat career.
His past wins over Rashad Evans and Nate Marquardt make him a feared opponent. Alvey will debut in Karate Combat on September 16th against Brazilian Adam Rosa.
