Nick Diaz plans to call out Khabib Nurmagomedov if he beats Robbie Lawler, claims Chael Sonnen
Nick Diaz and Khabib Nurmagomedov
Nick Diaz will be taking on Robbie Lawler at UFC 266, a staggering 17 years after their first fight back in April 2004 (at UFC 247). The fight will be a five-round non-title fight – the second in the history of UFC, after Nick’s brother Nate Diaz took part in the first (at UFC 263).
The latest development is that, Nick Diaz has been hatching a plan to call out consensus UFC Lightweight GOAT Khabib Nurmagomedov if he beats Robbie Lawler convincingly. This is according to former UFC Fighter and current analyst Chael Sonnen. Sonnen, speaking in an interview with ESPN revealed that he had learned the same from a source (A friend of his), named ‘Tommy from the Bronx’.
“This would be my favourite Nick Diaz moment” – Chael Sonnen
Diaz hasn’t fought in almost 7 years. He is coming off a unanimous decision loss against Anderson Silva at UFC 183 in January 2015. He was banned following that fight due to a positive marijuana test. Now that he is got his long-lost interest, he will be out to prove that he’s still got it.
Khabib meanwhile, has shown no signs of returning to the Octagon after retiring from the sport in October 2020, following a win over Justin Gaethje. He officially confirmed his retirement in March 2020 as well. Despite several lucrative offers coming his way, ‘The Eagle’ hasn’t even batted an eyelid.
