Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal went inside the octagon at UFC 272 to punish each other for the hatred they both have for one another. However, even after fighting for the whole 25 minutes inside the octagon both of them still wanted to continue the fight. Nevertheless, let’s analyze what Jorge Masvidal did to win this fight at UFC 272.

MMA pundits and many fight fans speculated that Jorge Masvidal will be the better striker and Colby Covington will be the better wrestler in the fight. But, it seemed as if Colby used his wrestling skills to drain Jorge which took away the sharpness from his striking. Consequently, Colby was connecting better when the fight was on their feet. This came off as a big disadvantage for Masvidal. The only thing he could have done is wrestled better. But, Kayla Harrison, his teammate at ATT thinks differently.

Recently, Kayla Harrison was giving an interview to the MMA Hour’s Ariel Helwani. She was asked about the fight between Covington and Masvidal. To this the PFL fighter responded saying:

“You wanna say whatever you want to say about Colby Covington but he is an amazing fighter…he has an excellent gas tank…he has a good fight IQ, he has good output, he is durable, he is tough… he is a good fighter.”

Kayla didn’t hold back to praise Colby for the skills he has. She also added that it is the 10000 hrs he has put in wrestling that matters and keeps him ahead of his opponent. Harrison feels that’s exactly where Jorge fell short.

“Colby has 10000 hrs wrestling time. No matter what Jorge does, he probably isn’t gonna reach that 10000 hrs. He is not gonna reach that level where his grappling is so instinctual and so muscle memory and so high output.” Said Kayla Harrison.

All of these praises coming from the opponent’s camp certainly shows the class of Covington’s skillset. However, even after winning the fight, Covington is going in any particular direction in the UFC. So, let’s see what the UFC holds for him in the future.
