UFC ON ABC : HOLLOWAY VS KATTAR PRELIMS RESULTS
The much awaited first UFC event of 2021 is here. It is headlined by Max Holloway vs Calvin Kattar. It is going to be one cracker of a match as the number 6 ranked Calvin Kattar will be looking to upstage the number 1 ranked Max Holloway. But, before that we had the prelims which kicked things off. Here are the results from the prelims!
Featherweight : Jacob Kilburn vs. Austin Lingo
Austin Lingo def. Jacob Kilburn via. unanimous decision : The first fight of the UFC on ABC : HOLLOWAY VS KATTAR went the full three rounds. Austin Lingo put on a clinic, right from the word go and came up trumps, against a hard-as-nails Jacob Kilburn.
Round 1
Lingo started the round with a bang, dropping Kilburn with a huge right hand. Kilburn somehow made his way up. Lingo tried to finish him off, but Kilburn didn’t give Lingo, much time, keeping Lingo at bay. Kilburn tried to get back into the action with a few takedowns, but he failed. The round ended with Kilburn landing a massive spinning backfist. 10-9 Lingo
Round 2
Fists of fury from both the fighters kicked off the second round. Lingo was the better striker. Kilburn finally got a successful takedown. Lingo connected with two left hands, followed by a right. Kilburn tried a takedown again, but failed. Lingo then successfully connected a massive low kick, followed by a successful takedown, of his own. 10-9 Lingo
Round 3
Lingo started the final round with a low kick. Kilburn tried his best to come back, responding with a left hand and then attempting an unsuccessful takedown. Kilburn then had partial ground control for a while, all while he tried to unsuccessfully execute a kimura on the grounded Lingo. Lingo then landed a combo, after both the fighters got back on their feet. He followed it up with a jab. Lingo kept Kilburn at bay, as the latter kept trying to comeback into the fight. 10-9 Lingo
Winner : Austin Lingo def. Jacob Kilburn via unanimous decision (30-26, 30-26, 30-27)
Women’s Bantamweight : Vanessa Melo vs. Sarah Moras
Vanessa Melo def. Sarah Moras via unanimous decision : The second fight was a women’s bantamweight contest. In a rather dull contest, Brazilian Vanessa Melo came up trumps against Sarah Moras.
Round 1
Both the fighters didn’t provide much action for a while. Melo connected with a left hand. But, Moras gained control with a right hand and a jab. Melo struggled with her accuracy the entire round. 10-9 Moras
Round 2
Moras started the round as the aggressor. But, it was Melo who had the first strike – with a big right hand, sending Moras’s mouthpiece flying. Melo then connected with a jab. In, an otherwise dull round, Moras strikes with a low kick and then attempts an unsuccessful takedown. 10-9 Melo
Round 3
Moras started the round well, connecting with a few jabs and kicks. But, Melo switched the momentum in the latter half of the round with a flurry of shots. 10-9 Melo
Winner : Vanessa Melo def. Sarah Moras via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
Welterweight : Ramzan Emeev vs. David Zawada
Ramzan Emeev def. David Zawada via. split decision : In a tightly contested welterweight contest, Russian Ramzan Emeev came up trumps against German David Zawada.
Round 1
Emeev began the fight as the aggressor. He began with a low kick and then an overhand right. Then Zawada landed a low kick. Zawada again landed a kick taking Emeev off balance. Emeev then executed a successful takedown. While being clinched against the fence Emeev grounded Zawada, gaining control. Emeev then landed a reverse elbow. The round ended with Zawada landing two powerful kicks. 10-9 Emeev
Round 2
A determined Zawada began the round as the aggressor. Zawada got grounded again by Emeev. Emeev then landed a few shots, but Zawada got back on his feet somehow. Zawada then landed a powerful leg kick. He then avoided a takedown from Emeev. The round ended with Zawada avoiding another takedown. 10-9 Emeev
Round 3
Emeev executed a takedown, and started off the round with style. Emeev then landed a few punches against a grounded Zawada. While getting up, Zawada then executed a takedown of his own. Zawada dominated the round with a combination of punches and powerful kicks. 10-9 Zawada
Winner : Ramzan Emeev def. David Zawada via. split decision (28-29,29-28,29-28)
Heavyweight : Carlos Felipe vs. Justin Tafa
Carlos Felipe def. Justin Tafa via split decision : In a hotly contested heavyweight contest, Carlos Felipe of Brazil edged out Mark Hunt’s protégé Justin Tafa.
Round 1
Felipe began the round with a hard punch. Tafa retaliated with solid body kicks. After a halt in the action, due to an eye poke, Felipe landed a punch, but is met with a hard kick from Tafa. Tafa kept the pressure on, as the round ended. 10-9 Tafa
Round 2
Tafa once again attacked Felipe with a nasty kick to the body. There is an unsuccessful takedown attempt from Felipe. Tafa once again lands a kick, followed by an uppercut. Felipe then, all charged up struck Tafa with a barrage of shots, ending the round on a high. 10-9 Felipe
Round 3
Both the fighters exchanged a flurry of shots as the round began. Felipe then threw a body punch on a gassed out Tafa. Not, much action for a while and towards the end, both the fighters exchanged a stunning barrage of shots. 10-9 Felipe
Winner : Carlos Felipe def. Justin Tafa via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
Women’s Bantamweight : Joselyne Edwards vs. Wu Yanan
Joselyne Edwards def. Wu Yanan via unanimous decision : Debutant Joselyne Edwards from Panama made a strong start to her UFC career with a dominating win over Wu Yanan.
Round 1
Yanan started off with a takedown. Edwards used this an opportunity to mount an armbar. Not much of action on the feet in the first round. The round ended with Edwards trying to get into position for a rear naked choke. 10-9 Edwards
Round 2
Yanan started off with a front kick going into the second round. Then, Yanan followed it up with a straight. Edwards got a takedown, right after this, as Yanan got back to her feet after a while. Edwards ended the round with a flurry of strikes, edging out Yanan in the round. 10-9 Edwards
Round 3
The match was Edwards’s to lose. Yanan lands a hard right hand. But, Edwards followed it up with two kicks. Yanan does little to damage Edwards in the final round as well, as Edwards finished the round very strongly. 10-9 Edwards
Winner : Joselyne Edwards def. Wu Yanan via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)
