Paddy Pimblett is glad he’s not facing Jared Gordon, and Chael Sonnen appreciates his honesty

Paddy Pimblett
Paddy Pimblett made the most of his debut when he knocked out Luigi Vendramini at UFC Vegas 36. Paddy is one of the hottest prospects in the UFC right now, and he came into the UFC with star power to gain everyone’s attention. UFC president announced that Paddy would fight Jared Gordon in a UFC even booked for London.
Talking to BarStools Sports, Dana said, “Jared Gordon is probably going to be his [opponent] … breaking news.” The news was later dismissed by Paddy’s manager, and according to him, they received no such offer from the UFC. Paddy wants to make a big name for himself, but won’t fight such high-level contenders with his current contract, and he is now booked to face Rodrigo Vargas at the same event.

Paddy talked about the “proposed” fight against Jared in a recent interview, and he said, “He never got floated at my team to be honest. No fighter actually got put forward until Rodrigo Vargas. The first opponent I got given was Rodrigo Vargas. But I would have happily fought Jared Gordon, but at the same time, I looked at it and he’s had nine UFC fights. How much money do you think he’s getting? He’s getting a lot more than me, lad. So, thinking about it that way, I’m glad I never ended up fighting Jared Gordon, ’cause I want a better and bigger contract before I fight people like that.”
Chael Sonnen appreciates Paddy Pimblett’s honesty

Chael Sonnen talked about this whole situation, and he was pissed off at Paddy for not accepting the fight against Gordon, it turned out neither of them ever got the offer in the first place.
Sonne was very impressed by Paddy’s response to this whole situation, he said, “The one thing that Paddy did, to bring me back on the Paddy train is he told the truth. The one thing that fighters always forget to do from time to time (is to) tell the truth. When you don’t want to do something for whatever reason you don’t want to do it, if you turn to schoolyard antics, we’re gonna see right through it, we in the audience.”
Sonnen continued, “When you tell the truth, we turn the page, and we never look think about it again. And that’s what Paddy did, Paddy told the truth. Paddy said I don’t love where my contract’s at, I believe in myself and I know where my contract can be. I gotta exhaust this one and I got to look good in the process of doing it, I got to bring in fans … All of which is true if you want to make more money.”
“Very simple recipe it’s not like Paddy cracked the code, he just stated what the code is. He went further to say, ‘Jared Gordon is a hard fight.’ We’re done, we’re all done, Paddy left me nothing to be upset with, he told the truth.”
