Khamzat Chimaev gets praise from Petr Yan
Petr Yan and Khamzat Chimaev will have the entire world tuning into UFC 273 to watch them perform inside the octagon. Both the fighters have great respect for the other and the bantamweight champ reveals what he made of Chimaev’s first meeting.
UFC 273 is undoubtedly one of the biggest fight cards of the year 2022. The pay-per-view card will feature two of the biggest Russian MMA stars, Petr Yan and Khamzat Chimaev on its main card. However, this won’t be the first time Yan and Chimaev will be meeting each other. The Tiger Muay Thai gym in Thailand has served as a training center for both fighters.
Ahead of his bout against Gilbert Burns, Chimaev headed to Tiger Muay Thai to train and was also accompanied by Yan who is a regular at that gym. During their meeting, the interim bantamweight champion was very impressed with Chimaev’s work ethic. Khamzat is already one of the biggest stars in MMA.
“I was really surprised by his work ethic,” said Yan in an interview uploaded by the YouTube channel “Smesh Bros”. Chimaev is currently 10-0 in his career and is the biggest draw of the PPV card this weekend. Petr believes it is very hard to train with all that attention.

Petr Yan gives props to Khamzat Chimaev for being composed amidst the hype
“He gets a lot of attention and it’s hard to be disciplined when you’re being praised everywhere,” said Yan in his interview. “But he’s a workaholic for sure. If he keeps it up he’s gonna be at the top for sure.” Yan and Chimaev also met with each other ahead of UFC 273 in the hotel lobby and had a friendly interaction.
Chimaev pretended to takedown the Russian bantamweight and joked that Yan was “well prepared” ahead of his fight against Aljamain Sterling. Petr will be taking on his rival Sterling in a unifier bantamweight fight. Meanwhile, Chimaev is on a mission to become the welterweight champion and a win against Burns could possibly see him presented with a title shot for his next fight.
