Raquel Pennington returned to the octagon after almost 15 months at UFC Vegas 37. She took on Pannie Kianzad and defeated her via unanimous decision,
Raquel looked good in her fight at UFC Vegas 37, but she believes she has much more to offer, and her near-death experience with COVID-19 completely changed her life. She got infected by the virus way back and recalled the time when he thought she was almost dead.
Pennington was happy to get back in the octagon after so long, and he wants to fight soon. She said, “This has been the longest year off. It was an extremely frustrating year and it feels like it’s been one setback after another for a couple years now. … I’m healthy, so I want to at least enjoy myself for a week or two and then I want another fight before the end of the year. Anybody who’s in the top 10.”
“I remember laying in bed one night and I was just like, ‘This can’t be it,” Raquel Pennington shares a horrifying story
Pennington talked about her experience with the Covid, she said, “It’s been a long year off, so it’s kind of just get back out there, shake that off – nothing better. … In April, I ended up getting COVID. I ended up in the hospital twice. I was on oxygen. I was on steroids for my heart and my lungs. The migraine was just one of a kind – it was pain that was going down my spine and they had no answers for me.”
She continued, “I remember laying in bed one night and I was just like, ‘This can’t be it.’ Because I really felt like my body was just shutting down on me and I thought that was going to be the end of it. Fighting is a part of me, but it’s not who I am. At the end of the day, that was kind of one of those moments that gave you a real-life reality check. It taught me to be a lot more grateful of things.”
