The former featherweight champion Max Holloway incised his name in the history books this year on January 17th. At the main event of UFC on ABC: Holloway vs. Kattar, Max showcased his striking skills putting on an absolute show in this fight. Leading up to this fight, Holloway was on a two-fight losing streak. He suffered back-to-back losses against UFC Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski. His second fight against the champion was very controversial given he lost via split decision. His opponent, on the other hand, was on a two-fight winning streak But Holloway absolutely outclassed Kattar in this fight. This fight goes down as one of the greatest fighting masterclasses of all time.

When the fight was over. There was a bit of confusion as to if Max broke his own record against Brian Ortega where he landed a total of 290 significant strikes. According to ESPN reporter Ariel Helwani, Max Holloway fell short of one strike against Calvin Kattar. Helwani said that Holloway landed only 289 strikes but according to UFC stats, Max broke his own record by landing a total of 445 strikes. The Blessed also etched his name in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Holloway won the fight in a lopsided unanimous decision. Apart from the most significant strikes landed record, this fight also stands tied with another UFC record for most one-sided scorecard in UFC history. The judges scored this fight 50-43, 50-43, 50-42. The UFC President Dana White summed this fight the best in the post-fight press conference in Abu Dhabi.

“A lot of people whom we all respect and know a lot about this sport picked Kattar to win tonight,” White told reporters in Abu Dhabi following the event. “Let’s give Kattar the respect he deserves, too. It takes two to make a great fight. Incredible.”
