Russian fighter Roman Bogatov has been released by UFC from his contract after his repeated fouls to a decision loss at UFC 251.
The news was itself verified by the fighter. While speaking with the Russian news agency TASS, Bogatov said, “Yes, they told me today they had terminated the contract.”
Bogatov’s manager Sayat Abdrakhmanov also confirmed the news with the outlet. He said that the decision was made due to the illegal blows he had thrown against Leonardo Santos.
Besides that, he also threw three illegal knees in the fight. The two of them went low ams hit Santos in the groin. The third smashed Santos in the head. After these illegal kicks, the referee docked Bogatov two points. At the end, the final score on the judges’ scorecards was 29–26, 29–26, and 29–26 in favor of Santos.
Bogatov had entered the UFC as an M-1 lightweight champion off the strength. But he struggled then in his single UFC fight against Santos to take the fight to the ground. A couple of sloppy knees later and he’s being sent back to the minors with a bit of a black mark on his name.

Roman Bogatov has been the latest name on the chopping block of UFC. Several other problematic fighters have also submitted their walking papers including Ray Borg, Eric Spiecly and Corey Anderson. Ray Borg has withdrew from number of fights and missed weight several times. Eric Spicely’s botched weight cut in the last fight resulted in the fight being called off. Corey Anderson himself requested his release from the UFC so that he could take his services to the Bellator.
