The middleweight title rematch between Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya at the main event of UFC 271 is for all the marbles. The former champ is more than ready to retain his belt, and the reigning champ is planning on putting up a performance of a lifetime and beating him even better than the last time around.

Adesanya and Whittaker are two of the best middleweights on this planet, and even though they respect each other’s skillsets, they don’t have much love for each other. Whittaker openly admitted that Adesanya got in his head during their first meeting, and he fought a little too emotional. According to him, he’s in a much better place in his life right now, and there’s nothing Adesanya can do that would throw him off from his game.

Adesanya moved up to the light heavyweight division to challenge, the former champion, Jan Blachowicz. He lost that fight via unanimous decision, and Rob claimed Izzy looked beatable in that fight, and Jan basically laid out a blueprint for him. He was asked about this in a recent interview with Submission radio, and to add to his comment he said, “There were just … stylistically I could see some angles that Jan could capitalize on, (and) I thought ‘You know what? Maybe I can capitalize on those as well.’ And again when he fought Vettori, I thought the same thing.”

Everybody is really excited for this fight because both of them have evolved so much from the first time around. Rob took some time out from the sport after that loss, and he came back a lot stronger, he is on 3 fight winning streak, and all of them came against top level contenders, Izzy defended his title thrice, and he looked better than every each time around.

Rob knows Izzy is a very technical fighter, and there aren’t too many holes in his game, this fight is going to be as tough as anything, but he promised to make Izzy pay for even a little slip in their fight. Rob added, “I guess, and that’s not to say that he’s got huge (holes in his game.) He’s the champ for a reason, he’s bloody good in his craft, but I feel like I have a skillset that if he slips up, I’m gonna take everything away from him, and uhh … you know I look to try and make him make a mistake.”
