“Saturday night is the only thing that matters” – Calvin Kattar is putting it all on the line on UFC Vegas 46

Calvin Kattar vs Giga Chikadze

Calvin Kattar will be making his return to the octagon at UFC Fight Night against Giga Chikadze for the featherweight main event exactly one year to the day since his unanimous decision loss to Max Holloway at UFC Fight Island 7.

Kattar could come out a bit rusty according to fight fans but head coach Tyson Chartier had some encouraging words saying he and his trainee were completely focused on Saturday night and weren’t worried about the American’s year’s worth hiatus from the cage.

Giga Chikadze called out Kattar and ‘The Boston Finisher’ is looking to put an end to the seven-fight win streak that the Georgian has going on currently.

Tyson Chartier spoke to MMA Fighting where he said, “Saturday night is the only thing that matters to this team. If Calvin goes out there and gets a big win, I’ll figure out what to whisper in his ear to try and get what we want.”

Chartier also spoke about Kattar‘s time away from the cage to which he replied, “We were ready to get back in there in the fall but it never materialized. Calvin’s attitude with that stuff is always, ‘I’ll never get worse with an extra few months.’ It’s been a long camp but he has the right outlook on it. The team outlook is let’s focus on things we can control because if you start looking at all these things, the could’ve, would’ve, should’ve, or the things that could’ve been done differently, you just end up as a sour person that never gets anything productive done.”

“The one thing we can control is getting Calvin better each day he’s on the mat. He’s worked on a lot of things this year and hopefully, that comes out on Saturday night because that’s when it really counts.”

Calvin Kattar will be making his long-awaited return to the UFC against the 14-2 Giga Chikadze, however, the ‘Ninja’ was instead looking for a title shot against champion Alexander Volkanovski and made it known to the media and the world.

Calvin Kattar and his camp felt they weren’t being recognized and coach Tyson Chartier spoke about what he planned for his fighter to do saying, “If we go out there on Saturday night and do our job, it’s not gonna be a good look for Giga going out and doing all of these interviews wanting to fight for the title. I’m not saying he’s overlooking Calvin but we would never make the same mistake of overlooking anybody. Once you get to the UFC — especially in the top-15 — anybody can win on any given night.”

Giga Chikadze, the current No. 8 ranked featherweight fighter was looking to ascertain his position as title challenger when he called out Alexander Volkanovski, however, he was beaten to it by Chan Sung Jung who will be fighting on UFC 273 in place of the injured Max Holloway so now he hopes his fight with Calvin Kattar will be enough to cement his position as the next in line to challenge for the featherweight title.
