“Costa, to me, is an easy paycheck”- Sean Strickland explains why he’s more excited to fight ‘savage’ Alex Pereira
Sean Strickland vs Alex Pereira
Rising contender, Sean Strickland is going to take on the hottest prospect, Alex Pereira in a middleweight contest at UFC 272. Strickland has been on a roll since he moved gyms to Xtreme Couture. He’s on a 6 fight win streak, and his last one came against Jack Hermansson. Pereira is a legend of the kickboxing circuit, and his recent venture into MMA has been nothing but amazing.
He is 5-1 in his career so far, and he showed incredible resilience in his last fight against Bruno Silva. Pereira is famous for his two wins over the middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya back in their kickboxing days. Pereira announced his UFC arrival with a brutal knockout, and the champ was fairly impressed by his performance. Alex claimed his ultimate goal is to become the champion, and he’s not so focused on facing Adesanya.
He trains with UFC’s light heavyweight champion, Glover Teixeira, who believes he’s already ready for a title shot. In an interview with The Corner MMA, he said, “He’s ready. He’s definitely working his ground, he’s improving every time. He has very good standup, very good at the distance, and is just a very mature fighter. I think he’s ready to fight Adesanya right now.”
“The f*cking guy knocked out Izzy”– Sean Strickland considers Alex Pereira a real threat to his win streak
With all these talks for the title, Pereira needs to worry about the task at hand, as Sean Strickland is not someone to mess around with. He was supposed to fight Paulo Costa next, but a fight against Alex seemed more interesting to him. Talking to Helen Yee about it, he said, “The f*cking guy knocked out Izzy. The guy’s a f*cking savage. I actually kind of enjoy, and I’ll tell you why. Costa, to me, is an easy paycheck. All my last fights, all great men, all solid f*cking dudes. But walking into those fights, you’re kind of just like, ‘I’m better than you, I’m better than you, I’m better than you.’”
“With Alex, it’s kind of like this scary thing. It kind of gets me excited. You see him, you’re like, ‘Oh man, you’re a big, scary-looking kickboxer, I want to fight you.’ So I do like the fact that he does have that unknown factor… new blood,” Sean concluded.
