Ian Garry’s dream of following in the footsteps of ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor took a huge hit recently. He can still go on to accomplish great things in his career, but his recent podcast appearance further made the fan base and fighters hate him more.
Some UFC fighters and fans always pick on Garry for marrying someone 14 years older than and employing his wife’s ex-husband as his nutritionist. Other times, he gets criticized for following a plant-based vegan diet and exaggerating things out of proportion.
Ahead of his title fight against Islam Makhachev at UFC 330, Garry claimed that women should run the world. The statement attracted much controversy as most of the MMA community turned on him, and wished to see him lose at UFC 330.
UFC will go to Serbia this weekend, where homegrown talent Uros Medic takes on Daniel Rodriguez in the main event. In an interview with Full Send MMA, the Serbian MMA fighter held nothing back when asked about Garry’s recent podcast appearance.
Every time he opens his mouth, it just makes me embarrassed to be in the same pool as him, in the same room, you know? I’m like, what is this guy talking about?… I mean, just because a woman runs his world, it doesn’t mean that we should all have a woman running our world.

Medic admitted that the Irishman had done well in his MMA career so far. However, he did not approve of Ian Garry getting a platform or even the fans liking the title challenger’s personality.
He’s been successful, however, so I can’t really say nothing about that. But it is kind of dumb, the things that he’s saying in these podcasts. And he’s getting a platform and following, but I just can’t seem to understand who are these people that are following him and liking for what he says. Because to me, that’s just plain stupid.

Medic is currently on a three-fight winning run with all three wins coming by way of knockout. If he defeats Rodriguez this weekend, it is safe to assume that the Serbian will get a top-ranked opponent next.
Garry is confident that he can defeat Makhachev at UFC 330. If not, Medic could likely face the Irishman next. With considerable trash-talk from the #14 welterweight contender, the fans will most likely welcome the matchup.
Brendan Schaub hilariously advises Ian Garry ahead of Islam Makhachev title fight
Ian Garry has only tasted a single defeat in his MMA career so far. It came during a relatively short-notice fight against Shavkat Rakhmonov back in 2024. Soon, he rebounded with decision wins over Carlos Prates and Belal Muhammad to land the title shot.

Garry utilizes footwork better than most fighters and use his striking to outpoint opponents. He has also improved his takedown defense by training with grapplers from Brazil and Georgia. However, his personality and trash-talking attempts fall apart most of the time.
Retired UFC fighter, Brendan Schaub, is another polarizing personality in the MMA space. Schaub usually goes against conventional opinions and get flak from the MMA community from time to time. However, he agreed with the assessment of the fanbase criticizing Ian Garry and couldn’t laugh at what the Irishman said recently.
Hey man, I’m sure you and your wife talk about things at night, but that doesn’t mean you should use it to promote a cage fight against the pound-for-pound No. 1 fighter in the world… You’re turning everybody off.

As UFC 330 approaches, one can expect Garry to come up with something new to draw the ire of MMA community every time.
It remains to be seen if his approach to fight promotion may irritate or upset Makhachev once the duo engages in the usual UFC press conference and ceremonial weigh-ins during the fight week.
