Slippery octagon puts an end to Giga Chikadze’s 7 fight win streak as Calvin Kattar takes the win

UFC Vegas 46 featuring the main event fight between Calvin Kattar and Giga Chikadze ended in a unanimous decision win for the American who dominated the majority of the bout and didn’t let Chikadze stick to his game plan.

Kattar had sat out for an entire year before he stepped into the octagon to face one of the division’s most dangerous strikers, however, ‘The Boston Finisher’ was more than equipped and ready to take on the No. 8 ranked featherweight fighter and was relentless in his attacks as it could be seen in the gassed out Chikadze who had no answers to Kattar.

Chikadze did come out firing on all cylinders as he ate at Kattar with his kicks and punches, but there was a moment of bad luck for the Georgian when he slipped on the mat while trying to land a kick on Kattar who then took advantage of it by taking Chikadze to the ground and then grappled him for the rest of the first round. The slip seemed to have cost the match for Chikadze who was on a seven-fight win streak and was hoping this would lead to title contention.

However, Chikadze wasn’t the only one who slipped with many fighters who were scheduled for a bout on Saturday night complaining about the slippery octagon.

UFC Vegas 46 was a night to forget for Giga Chikadze after his loss to Calvin Kattar and the worst yet is that the loss was of no-fault off his own. While trying to land a kick on Kattar, ‘Ninja’ slipped on the mat which then led to Kattar taking control of the match eventually tiring out Chikadze.

Aljamain Sterling spoke out after his loss stating, “You know how many times have I bitched about this issue?? It’s absurd how much slipping and losing position can effect fights. Kattar looked beast all fight so nothing taken from him. But this slipping issue is trashhhh!

He tweeted this right after a post-fight press conference video of Dana White answering to Chikadze’s slip was put up.

Dana was asked if they were fighters who were complaining about the slippery octagon to which he replied, “No.”

Fans all over tweeted on Dana’s questionable reaction stating their displeasure on how Dana avoided the topic.

Kattar however, truly showed his spirit and character and displayed a very dominating performance to take home the win and performance bonus award.
