The Olympic medalist believes Conor McGregor has a lot to do with the upcoming fighters trying to be edgy and have a shtick other than just good fighting skills in the current MMA world.
Colby Covington is one of the most entertaining fighters in the UFC. All MMA fans tune in to watch the “Chaos” take the center stage put on a show. From almost being cut off from the UFC roster to being one of the biggest stars in the UFC, Covington has come a long way. Colby’s character has to do with the success of the fighter.
While some might say Colby has taken it too far at times, his former teammate, Kayla Harrison believes the same. Covington has been a part of a lot of controversies for his trash-talking and Harrison believes this culture of having to be sensational started with the Irish superstar. “It sucks. It is one of the reasons why MMA is so frustrating to me,” says Harrison.

“It’s like we’re in this era of “The Conor McGregor effect”. It’s like talk that sh*t, have that swagger. Be this huge personality,” says Harrison. “To me like, I see him [Colby] as a wounded little boy, you know? The f**ked up kid on the playground who none one will play with and you know, now he has turned into a f**king monster.”
There is no denying that Conor has truly had an effect on what sells pay-per-views. The Irish superstar took over the world of MMA by a storm with his charisma and his cocky personality which was backed by his skills inside the octagon. Many fighters that have come after “The Notorious One” have tried to replicate his blueprint to success.
Covington is now scheduled to take on his former friend Jorge Masvidal in a blockbuster grudge match at UFC 272. This event is undoubtedly one of the biggest PPVs in the company’s history.
