“A lot of people think Asian men are weak” The Korean Zombie determined to create an impact with a win at UFC 273
The Korean Zombie
The Korean Zombie is presented with the biggest opportunity of his life at UFC 273. The featherweight legend opens up about the lack of opportunities for Asian fighters on the biggest stage of the world and is determined to break that barrier with a win over Alexander Volkanovski.
UFC 273 is headlined by the amazing featherweight title fight between Alexander Volkanovski and Chan Sung Jung. The two featherweight veterans will go at each other and The Zombie will give it all to snatch the belt from the Kiwi. The fight will take place at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida this weekend.
At the UFC 273 pre-fight press conference, Chan was asked by a reporter about the impact he would have if he became the champion. “A lot of people think that Asian men not being able to become champions means Asian men are weak, but that’s not the case,” said Sung Jung at the press conference.
The fighter has a record of 17-6-0 in his professional mixed martial arts career and is one of the best to ever do it. Chan has competed in various promotions like WEC, Pancrase, World Victory Road, and DEEP. A win over Volkanovski would make him the first male Asian champion in the UFC.
The Korean Zombie believes he can open the path for several other Asian fighters
The Zombie believes the reason behind the lack of Asian champions is the lack of opportunity presented compared to other fighters. “It is because Asian men are not given as much opportunity as perhaps other races,” said The Zombie in the pre-fight press conference.
“If I become champion, then more Asian MMA fighters will be given the opportunity to fight in the UFC and potentially become champion,” he said followed by a loud cheer from the audience. Zombie is coming off a win against Dan Ige in 2021 and is looking to create history this weekend against Volkanovski.
Alex Volkanovski is yet to be stopped by someone in the UFC and is on his path to be one of the greatest featherweights of all time. Watch the UFC 273 pre-fight press conference below:
