Jose Aldo and Urijah Faber

Urijah Faber is in awe of “good friend” Jose Aldo. The Brazilian turned back the clock when he put on an absolute striking clinic against Pedro Munhoz in the co-main event of UFC 265. He ended up scoring a unanimous decision win over Munhoz, to remain very much relevant in the bantamweight title picture.

Jose Aldo’s friend Urijah Faber, who just like Aldo, competed as a featherweight previously and is currently a bantamweight, weighed in on the Brazilian’s impressive showing in recent times. Faber expressed how much love he had for, arguably the greatest featherweight of all time.

Urijah Faber was quoted as saying, “I love Aldo. I’ve always said Aldo is one of the best pound-for-pound guys on the planet, for sure. I mean, the [run] that he went [on] — and he really carries himself like a champion too, like the way he lives his life, the way he’s constantly improving. Even leaving no stone unturned by dropping down a weight when I know that was a difficult thing. We’ve always had mutual respect.” [via MMA Fighting]

Aldo is currently ranked number 5 in the bantamweight division. He only recently fought for the bantamweight title – at UFC 251, but ended up getting knocked out by Petr Yan. However, Aldo never lost hope, he bounced back with two wins over Marlon Moraes and Munhoz to cement his position as a top-ranked bantamweight.

The 35-year old Brazilian, looks set to have a push towards the bantamweight title one more time. As for Faber, he is currently 42 years old, but has still not given up on return to the UFC. He last stepped inside the Octagon in December 2019 at UFC 245, when he was demolished by a head kick from Petr Yan.
