The former UFC Lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov recently issued a controversial statement about the UFC ring girls and he has been facing criticism from many people since then. The UFC women’s Flyweight champion, Valentina Shevchenko is also one of them who came in support of the ring girls.
Khabib is a Russian professional retired mixed martial artist and the longest-reigning UFC lightweight champion who retired with 29 wins and no loss in October 2020. In one of his interviews, he expressed his views on the ring girls that they were totally unnecessary in Octagon.
In his interaction with media RT Sport, Khabib Nurmagomedov said, “All of us have our own preferences, our culture, our own values. So, say I am at a Fight Night event with my father. So, there are these people who are passing by with those round cards showing it’s number 2 now.”
“But nobody looks at those cards. But I feel uncomfortable sitting there with my father. I am not against all this stuff. If you want to do it, do it, but don’t try to impose it at our events. Do it somewhere else.” He also said that there is a time and place for everything and he wouldn’t be implementing this in his Eagle Fighting Championship, Khabib added,
“I don’t think we should put together those things. It’s my personal opinion. We are here to develop the sport…Please don’t you ever think I have anything against women. Men and women are created for each other…Everything has its own place…There are some limits to everything, that we do, we show, we speak. There should always be some limits. And for me, ring girls have nothing to do with MMA.”

The UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion, Valentina Shevchenko always stood up for women empowerment and she recently countered the comment made by Khabib Nurmagomedov about the Ring girls being ‘useless’. In the post-fight press conference of UFC 266, she boasts his claims about ring girls being an important part of all the events.
In the conference after her fight, Valentina Shevchenko said that “Beautiful women is a decoration of any event and I want people to know that no one have right to say they are useless because they were on the place where they have to be,”
“They were here at the beginning and it’s like no matter you will come at any event you will see beautiful women and you as a man like everyone enjoy its kind of like beautiful, Right and this is decoration, That’s why this is my message that beautiful women is decoration of any event”
