Tyron Woodley and Colby Covington settle their rivalry at the main event of UFC Vegas 11

Headlined by Tyron Woodley and Colby Covington, UFC Vegas 11 also had an amazing preliminary card leading up to the main card action. Here is a look at all the results from the preliminary bouts-

Bantamweight- Tyson Nam vs Jerome Rivera

Tyson Nam defeats Jerome Rivera via TKO in Round 2. As the fight got underway it was the former who started in explosive fashion with the aim of not letting his opponent settle down in the octagon. Even though Rivera showed his attempts to salvage a devastating blow to Nam, he was not able to connect well.

As soon as the second round came Nam was clear with his intentions. He just had to connect ever so beautifully to end the fight before the 3rd round. In the last minute of the second round Nam pulled out a huge blow to Rivera which led the lights to knock out, out of him. With this win Tyson Nam now has 20 wins in his professional MMA career.

Bantamweight: Andre Ewell vs Irwin Rivera

Andre Ewell defeats Irwin Rivera via split decision in a tough match at UFC Vegas 11. The fight got underway by Rivera trying to clearly deliver knock out blows whereas Ewell concentrated more on the the body blows of his opponent. The latter kept on delivering combinations one after the other. But Rivera kept countering back with successive kicks and jabs. Towards the end of the first round it could be said that Ewell did have an upper hand in the fight.

In the second round Rivera wanted to tie the score sheets. In that process he tried to be the aggressor but midway in the round it was Ewell who was able to deliver more shots with better connectivity. However it did seem that Ewell did have a scoring advantage in this round as well.
As matters went into the last and final round, Rivera knew he had to connect shots better. He started with the same surge as in the previous rounds but Ewell was able to defend well again. Midway through the last round it did seem as if both fighters have stopped looking for a finish. But Rivera kept on pushing through. As he elbowed Ewell in the last second it was the sound of the bell that called it a close. Only for the judges to place the fight in favour of Andre Ewell.

Bantamweight: Journey Newson vs Randy Costa

In the last men’s bantamweight clash on the preliminary card of UFC Vegas 11, it was Journey Newson going against Randy Costa. In which Randy Costa knocked out the more experienced Journey Newson within the 1st round in the most brutal fashion.

As the fight commenced, it seemed like a tentative start. Costa slowly advanced towards Newson. He faked a left hand, then obliterates Newson with a clean head kick. One follow-up right hand and out go the lights. In stepped the referee to call the fight off.

Featherweights: Darrick Minner vs TJ Laramie

The first of featherweight division’s fight on the preliminary card of UFC Vegas 11 saw Minner vs Laramie. The latter is relatively a new face in the UFC organisation. Having said that Darrick Minner won the fight in the first round itself via submission( guillotine choke).

As soon as fight started it seemed like Minner had a certain strategy for his opponent. He looked to change levels early on but was denied in the initial attempts. But eventually as Laramie was looking for a reversal and was unsuccessful. Minner took the advantage and locked in the guillotine choke which caused Laramie to tap out in pain.

Women’s Bantamweight: Jessica-Rose Clark vs Sarah Aplar

Sarah Aplar was a new face in the UFC whereas Jessica Rose Clark was trying bounce back after consecutive losses. This was the first women’s encounter of UFC Vegas 11 and was not at all disappointing. In which Jessica Rose Clark defeated Sarah Aplar via TKO.

In the first round of the match Clark clearly had the upper hand as she used her experience from being inside the octagon. Having more number of strikes and significant strikes showed her attacking intent. Whereas Aplar only retaliated by smashing leg kicks onto Clark. The first round was clearly taken by Clark.

In the second round Aplar’s confidence seemed to only grow as she connected her blows significantly. Whenever Clark was applying pressure, she herself left the pressure off giving time to Aplar to bounce back. But even then Clark was able to connect her punches and jabs onto the face of her opponent better. The second round was quite close

It was all to grab in the third and final round of the fight. Clark was able to attack more and eventually connect more than Aplar in the last round. Clark seemed to not leave any stone unturned to being the fight to a close. And finally there it was towards the early seconds of the last minute, a huge blow courtesy to brutal knee attack. Ecebtually knocking out Aplar from her stance.

Women Flyweight: Mayra Bueno Silva vs Mara Romero Borella

Mayra Bueno Silva wina via submission against Mara Romero Borella at UFC Vegas 11. The fight started with Borella being the aggressor. She connected 8 significant strikes out of the total 16 she attempted till the first 2 minutes of the opening round. But it seemed to be not enough to dazzle Bueno Silva from her composure. As Silva took her down and locked her into an armbar, eventually getting a tap out.

Featherweight: Mirsad Bektić vs Damon Jackson

Danon Jackson defeats Mirsad Bektić via submission. Jackson came into the fight with 4 more wins than Bektić in professional MMA career.

As the fight started, the entire first minute of the first round saw Bektić leading the score sheets as he connected all his strikes along with couple of takedowns. But evidently Jackson had the advantage of height and reach. Jackson has won 13 of his 17 fights via submission and was keen onto adding to that throughout the first round. While Bektić delivered more than 30 strikes onto Jackson within the first round. Bektić was the clear cut winner of this round.

The second round Bektić seemed even more confident. Where’s Jackson was only looking for an opportunity to drop in a submission move. This strategy of Jackson allowed Bektić to lead the scoring sheets by some margin. Midway through the second round Bektić had delivered 49 strikes whereas Jackson had a tally of just 1. Bektić controlled this fight ever since the start as even the second round came to a close.

The last round automatically implied that the only way Jackson could win this fight was via finishing it. As he lacked far behind on the scoring sheets. Jackson even started in emphatic fashion. His intentions seemed clear and he eventually locked Bektić only to see him tap out.

Flyweight: Jordan Espinosa vs David Dvorak

The last fight on the preliminary card of UFC Vegas 11 was a flyweight contest featuring Jordan Espinosa and David Dvorak. In which Dvorak defeated Espinosa via unanimous decision.

The fight started with Espinosa initiating the attack via body blows and leg kicks while Dvorak was comfortable with moving around to dodge attacks in the octagon. Even at midway in the first round no fighter was letting easy with continuous attacks in one way or the other. It was a neck to neck competition but Dvorak did end up scoring more in the scoring charts in the first round.

The second round started with Dvorak initiating body blows and leg kicks while Espinosa was comfortable defending them. Both fighters were not leaving the pressure loose at anytime. But Espinosa was able to deliver more number or head shots which seemed to affect Dvorak after a while. But Dvorak retaliated beautifully delivering significant strikes. A winner could not be picked even when the second round came to a close.

Even in the last round both fighters kept on taking the attack to one another. It was admirable to the duo not willing to leave their attacking intents for even a moment to hand over the advantage. As the bell sounded, no winner could be concluded after such a close contest. It was all up-to the judges who proclaimed Dvorak as the winner.
