Islam Makhachev, the rising lightweight has a lot riding on his shoulders tomorrow as he takes on Thiago Moises in his first-ever main event bout at UFC Vegas 31.
Islam Makhachev takes on Brazilian lightweight Thiago Moises at UFC Vegas 31 in his first-event fight. The Dagestani has been in the UFC for a long time and even has a commendable win streak of 7 fights. Islam is a very close friend of former lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. Makhachev has been training with Khabib for a long time and also has a special connection with The Eagle’s father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.
Recently while promoting his teammate’s fight, Khabib spoke to ESPN‘s Brett Okamoto and revealed what his father’s dream was. “He told me, ‘When you gonna finish, Islam have to come,’” said Nurmagomedov. “’ You finish, Islam has to come at the same time, because there are three years between you guys.”
Khabib expects Islam Makhachev to be top 3
Makhachev is ranked at No.9 in the UFC lightweight rankings. He has not fought a top 10 opponent in his entire career despite his amazing career. A lot of top fighters have been turning him down when called to fight. Khabib says that Islam is a little far from Abdulmanap’s wish. “I told Islam, ‘You a little bit late, brother,” said Nurmagomedov. “You only top 10. You’re supposed to be top 3.’ This guy is late.”
Khabib, though has retired will be cornering his teammate Islam in the main event tomorrow. “This Saturday, you have to prove yourself,” Nurmagomedov said. “Show the world who is Islam Makhachev. Not only Khabib’s brother. No. He has to be his own. Islam Makhachev. Best in the world. Eight-fight win streak. He beat everyone.”
