The number three ranked UFC Middleweight fighter, Jared Cannonier improved his record to 4-1 in the Middleweight division with his latest win against the former interim Middleweight champion, Kelvin Gastelum at the main event of UFC Vegas 34.

After securing a win against Gastelum, ‘The Killa Gorilla’ commented that he is broke right now, so he can accept any other fight rather than the title fight as well. Jared Cannonier says, “I’m broke, so I need to fight, Hopefully, I get that title shot, but the right name might make me say yes.”

This isn’t something new in UFC as many fighters have been recently vocal about their financial struggles even after fighting in the biggest MMA promotion of the world.

During his interview with Ariel Helwani, Jared Cannonier shed light on where his money is going right now. He says, “After this win, 60% of my money is already gone. Between the gym, between management, between taxes, on top of that, I’ve got bills, credit cards.”

“I’ve got kids, I have a house up in Alaska, I’ve got a house here, I’ve got car payments. That money goes. The money doesn’t last forever,”

Cannonier added, “And right now, fighting is our only revenue. I don’t have sponsors or anything like that. Fighting is my only focus. I’m not out here doing commercials or anything like that. Nobody’s asking me to be in the next Marvel movie. And not being able to fight for the last ten months put a strain on my pockets.” {H/T BloodyElbow}

Unlike many of the high profile UFC fighters such as Jon Jones, Francis Ngannou, and others, Jared Cannonier isn’t blaming the promotion for his current situation. In fact, he is happy with what he is getting paid from UFC.

Cannonier added, “Everybody’s saying the UFC needs to pay its fighters. In my situation, when I quit my job, I was able to get paid from the UFC to sustain myself. So I’m not here to say, ‘the UFC isn’t paying me!’ because I’m getting paid pretty good from the UFC. It’s just that money doesn’t last forever,”
