The bantamweight contest between Raphael Assuncao (27-8 MMA, 11-5 UFC) and Ricky Simon (18-3 MMA, 6-2 UFC) was a much-anticipated fight for the night. Raphael is a true veteran of the division, and he was looking to get a dominant victory over rising contender Simon to get back in the title mix.

Simon was coming in this fight with a hot win streak, he promised that he will knock Raphael out, and this fight lived up to the hype.

Round 1 – The fight started and Ricky landed an unintentional groin shot that put a halt to the action. Raphael took his time and got back into the fight. He landed a crisp jab followed by a hard leg kick, Ricky stepped back. Ricky connected with a nice short hook and got the takedown against Raphael. He immediately moves to the top mount and started landing a barrage of ground and pound strikes, Raphael slips some of them and manages to get back on his feet.

Round 2 – Ricky gets right back in Raphael’s face in round number 2. He lands a couple of crisp jabs, and starts to walk down Raphael, he gained massive confidence in the last round, and he is showing it. Simon ducked a straight, and a hook to land a big strike of his own, he knocks out Raphael cold to get the win at UFC Vegas 45.
