The negative reception Colby received might be due to his antics outside the octagon. Colby has been upfront about a time in his career when he was about to be cut by the UFC, a point at which he decided to up the ante by turning his personality up to eleven. The sudden controversy that ensued ensured he could be popular enough to sign a new contract with the UFC.

Masvidal has recently signed a new contract with the UFC as well. After having the best year a fighter could have in 2019, Masvidal has continued to rise in stardom and it’s no surprise that he got a new contract. Masvidal has also shown interest in staying at the UFC until the end of his career.

To this end, according to Dana White, President of the UFC, Masvidal will continue to be a part of the UFC even if he loses the fight against Covington. In a recent interview, Dana White said, “Yeah, he did and he wants to be here for the rest of his career. So, he will be…yeah I mean he’s gonna stay here and fight. He’s still one of the best in the world.”
