“We can share a drink,” Fernand Lopez invites Francis Ngannou to settle their dispute at UFC 270
Fernand Lopez regrets his falling out with Francis Ngannou
The only regret coach Fernand Lopez has ahead of UFC 270 is his falling out with Francis Ngannou.
If there’s one person that will end up feeling bitter-sweet at the end of this weekend’s heavyweight clash, regardless of the outcome, it will coach Fernand Lopez. Francis Ngannou and Ciryl Gane go head to head in the main event of UFC 270. The fight is set to take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The biggest draw of the card is the heavyweight title unifier fight in the main event.
A lot of history goes down in the main event fight as Francis and Gane were once training together before the Cameroonian fighter decided to break away from the gym run by Fernand Lopez. Ahead of this interesting clash, the coach talks to the media about how he feels heading into this fight. Lopez has helped Ciryl Gane become the interim heavyweight champion.
“What I regret the most is the falling down with Francis. When we spend that amount of time with someone, sharing the rooms, sharing the flights, sharing the training, you get attached to him. And when you guys fall out it is disappointing,” said coach Lopez addressing the media.

Fernand Lopez thinks Francis Ngannou will never work with him again
The coach believes the two can never work together again. But he wouldn’t mind having a sit down with Ngannou and talking about their fallout. “I don’t think we can work together anymore but I think we can be gentle and talk as people and just share a drink or talk and it is okay,” said Lopez. Francis now trains under coach Eric Nicksick. He even won his belt under the training of Eric.
Fernand also has no bad feelings about Francis becoming the champion under another coach. In fact, Lopez rates Eric as one of the greatest coaches in the world. “I’m fine with that. I just met this morning with Eric Nicksick, one of the best coaches in the world. I really like what he’s doing. I think that he did an amazing job bringing Francis to that belt and him to be calm, to be collected.”
