Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier had one of the greatest rivalries in UFC history. Cormier came into the UFC after the Strikeforce merger. He had a firm eye on competing against Jon Jones for the light heavyweight title. Their rivalry had heated exchanges, pushes, and altercations. However, most fans forget about Jones using his mugshot to troll Cormier on social media.
Jon Jones posted his mugshot on Instagram and wrote, “@dcmma that’s the face of the man who would have you hand washing his underwear. I run your house.” They had one of the most heated rivalry in the UFC. Jones defeated DC at UFC 182 in their first bout. The fight was evenly matched until the fourth round. During the championship rounds, Jones used his superior stamina to win a unanimous decision on the scorecard.
The two fought again in 2017 at UFC 214. During this time, Jones had issues outside the UFC. He was arrested for various problems, and the UFC stripped the title from Jones. Daniel Cormier won and defended the vacant belt twice before rematching Jones at UFC 214. At this time, Jones used his mugshot to warn Cormier about their rivalry. The rematch became highly anticipated after their previous bouts got canceled due to injuries and drug test failures.
Jones landed a head kick on DC in the rematch, knocking him out with strikes in the third round. However, Jones failed another drug test within a week and got stripped again. The bout remains a no-contest to this day. A third bout never materialized as DC moved to the heavyweight division in 2018. Five years later, Jones also moved to the heavyweight division, but by then, DC had retired from MMA.
Daniel Cormier talks about a super fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic
Stipe Miocic and Jon Jones remain the only fighters to defeat Daniel Cormier in an MMA fight. Jones defeated DC at UFC 182. He knocked DC out in a rematch at UFC 214, but it was deemed a no-contest because of a failed drug test. Currently, the negotiations for a Jones vs. Stipe bout are ongoing. Cormier gave his thoughts on the fight.
Cormier said, “We’ve got to make this happen [with Jones and Miocic]. Otherwise, we’re gonna miss out on another one. This is too big of a fight to let fall by the wayside. He seemed to be wanting to right away. It’s up to now Stipe Miocic, the challenger, to make it happen.”
Stipe and Cormier competed in a trilogy bout from 2018-20. DC won the first fight via KO at UFC 226. Stipe won the second bout in 2019 to set up a trilogy fight. At UFC 252, Stipe defeated DC on the scorecard to emerge as the trilogy winner.
