The American Top Team gym is the hub for talented fighters. One such superstar that emerged from that gym is UFC welterweight fighter Jorge Masvidal and coach Mike Brown felt it was important to remind the fans of the humble beginnings of his pupil. In a recent Instagram post, Mike posted a picture of Masvidal, holding a sign that read, “HUNGRY!! WILL FIGHT FOR FOOD!! BACKYARDS, UFC, KFC, SHOW ME THE $$$!!!”

In his caption, he wrote, “Here’s a classic. a young Pre-UFC [Jorge Masvidal] trying to get paid and looking to get signed by a major MMA promotion. Oh how times have changed, Jorge is now one of the absolute biggest PPV draws in the sport.”

The fighter from Miami began his career by fighting in Kimbo Slice’s backyard brawls. “Gamebred” made his professional debut on May 24, 2003, at HOOKnSHOOT Absolute Fighting Championship. He was signed by Bellator MMA and fought in the lightweight tournament. He had a very successful run to the semi-finals.

Masvidal is a veteran of the sport and has fought for various organizations. He was signed to Strikeforce and had a great run there. Masvidal made his UFC debut in the year 2013 and won his first fight via unanimous decision. Since his debut with the UFC, he has fought for the welterweight title twice and also has the record for fastest knockout in the promotion’s history.
