“You won’t be talking about it for years” Dana White reacts to Francis Ngannou win against Ciryl Gane at UFC 270
Dana White on Francis Ngannou vs Ciryl Gane
Dana White gives his first reaction to the amazing Francis Ngannou vs Ciryl Gane fight at the main event of UFC 270.
UFC President shocked everyone when he was not present at the press conference or for the post-fight belt ceremony when heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou defended his belt in an honorable fashion against the very skilled Ciryl Gane. Ngannou successfully made his first title defense at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California last weekend.
Francis surprised everyone with his grappling as he outscored Gane in a five-round fight after losing the first two rounds. Dana White, just like anyone who watched the fight was equally surprised. “During the fight, I was very surprised. After the fight, I mean, it was genius,” said Dana talking to Laura Sanki in an ESPN Q&A session.
“It was genius for him [Francis] to work on his wrestling, go in there and do his thing. I guarantee you, I don’t know this for a fact but, Ciryl Gane did almost no wrestling coming into the fight. So, to implement the game plan he had, was brilliant,” said White. Watch the clip below:

Though White might have been impressed with Ngannou’s gameplan and performance in the fight against Gane, he sure doesn’t think this fight will go down as one of the greats. White, like the million fans in the world, expected Francis to use his crazy power against someone as technical as Gane. “Listen, the heavyweight fight wasn’t one you’re going to be talking about for years, you know,” said White.
“It wasn’t what I thought it was going to be. I thought it was going to be a lot more standup. But it was a brilliant game plan from Francis to do what he did and the way that he did it,” said Dana on his overall review of the fight. Francis has never won a fight that has gone past three rounds in his career. The KO artist truly has evolved so much and showed it to the world last weekend against someone who is considered to be the most technical heavyweight of all time.
