In striking and grappling Dos Anjos’ was a level above Moicano and Dos Anjos’ dropped Moicano in the second round. Even though this looked like the beginning of the end Moicano soldiered on through the devastating battering he received from Dos Anjos. By the end of the third round Moicano’s face was bloody and bloated and the doctor had been called in to check on him, however he was allowed to continue.
After much of the same in the 4th round the ringside physician was once again called in to check on Moicano, the physician did not stop the fight but told the referee that it would be reasonable to stop the fight. In the 5th round Dos Anjos slowed down a little and Moicano surprised him with a flurry of punches where he got caught. However the last attempt at victory for Moicano fizzled out as Dos Anjos recovered and won the comfortable decision.

“I took my foot out of the gas..” tells Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 272
In an interview with Ariel Helwani, Dos Anjos admits to having taken his foot off the gas in the 5th round of the UFC 272 which led to him getting caught. Dos Anjos, along with most who watched the fight, believe that the fight should’ve been stopped by the coaches. Moicano clearly wasn’t able to inflict any damage on Dos Anjos while he was getting destroyed himself.
At that point MMA coaches should protect the fighters like in boxing and throw in the towel. Dos Anjos speculates that the coaches think that the smaller MMA gloves gives you a better chance at a miraculous victory. So coaches forgo the health of their fighters and let them continue for the miniscule chance that they win.
