The ATP singles season ended after the conclusion of the ATP Finals. Jannik Sinner defended his title by edging arch-rival Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets, winning his sixth title of the season.
Back in July, after Wimbledon, Sinner shocked the tennis world when he announced that he had rehired Umberto Ferrara as his coach. This move greatly shocked the tennis community because Sinner had fired Ferrara last year following the doping scandal.
It’s well known how Ferrara bought a spray from Italy and recommended it to physio Giacomo Naldi, who, while using it on his finger, eventually contaminated the World No.2 during physiotherapy sessions. Sinner did not explain much why he decided to re-hire Ferrara, who on November 22 shared a heartfelt post on Instagram.
I’ve been involved in sports for many years, but I’ll never cease to be amazed by how beautiful it is. Sport is commitment, dedication, and sacrifice; it’s emotion, smiles, tears; it’s victory and defeat, joy and disappointment; it’s comparing yourself and others; it’s the desire to improve, the ability to analyze, and faith in your work; it’s suffering in the dark moments that leave you with a pain that’s difficult to process, but it’s also believing in the possibility of getting up and starting over with enthusiasm.

Apart from the ATP Finals, Sinner took home the Australian Open, Wimbledon, China Open, Vienna Open, and the Paris Masters. He failed to defend six times, including the US Open, where Alcaraz beat him. Because of the ATP Finals win, Sinner is now on a 31-match winning streak on indoor hardcourts.
Thanks to all of them, but above all, thanks to Jannik for his trust and for the beauty of this shared journey.

Sinner skipped the Davis Cup, which is underway in Bologna. Italy will script history if they beat Spain in the final, as it will make them the first team to complete a three-peat at the Davis Cup.
Jack Sock picks the best player of the season after Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner
Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner bagged eight and six titles, from 11 and 10 finals, respectively, this year. No other player has dominated this much this season.

But who was the third-best player? According to former player John Isner, it was Novak Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam champion, who featured in the semifinals of all four Majors, played the final of the Miami Open, and lifted titles at the ATP 250 tournaments Geneva Open and the Hellenic Championship. In the eyes of Jack Sock, however, Felix Auger-Aliassime was the third-best player. He said on the Nothing Major podcast:
I’m going to go with Felix. Finishing at your career high ranking, making it to the year-end finals for the first time, playing at the level he did to close out the year. I don’t know what it is about him in general, where, like, sometimes I just don’t think he’s maybe consistently at that high, high level, but then you look back at his year, and it was incredible, and he finished five in the world.
Auger-Aliassime played five finals this year and also qualified for the year-end championship for the second time. He clinched titles at the Adelaide International, Open Sud de France, and the European Open, losing the Dubai Open and the Paris Masters.
Like Sinner, Alcaraz also withdrew from the Davis Cup Finals. He wanted to represent Spain, but the hamstring injury he suffered during the ATP Finals match against the 24-year-old forced him to skip it.
