Jannik Sinner‘s former fitness coach Umberto Ferrara is set to join Matteo Berrettini‘s entourage if reports are to be believed. Sinner had parted ways with Ferrara and physio Giacomo Naldi following the International Tennis Integrity Agency’s (ITIA) verdict on Sinner’s doping case.

It was Ferrara who bought a spray from Italy and gave it to Naldi to heal a cut on his finger. The spray contained clostebol, the banned substance, which contaminated Sinner when Naldi was massaging him.

Days after the report was made public, Sinner split with both Naldi and Ferrara, and a few months later, Ferrara has now linked up with Berrettini, a former World No.6 and a 10-time title winner. Berrettini, last month, ended his one-year partnership with coach Francisco Roig.

Although the ITIA declared Sinner innocent and imposed no ban on him except for provisional suspension on two occasions, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) demanded a ban on him. The WADA approached the Court of Arbitration of Sport (CAS) to seek a suspension of up to two years.

Mats Wilander says Jannik Sinner is a big match player like Novak Djokovic

Jannik Sinner has suffered several injuries and illnesses this season, but in spite of that, he will end this season as the most successful men’s player with seven tour-level titles, which also includes the Australian Open and US Open. Mats Wilander praised Sinner for his mental toughness and compared him to Novak Djokovic.

Sinner is a big-time, big match player a la Novak Djokovic, more so than Alcaraz in a way, because Sinner shows up, plays the same way, except better when the pressure is on, and he doesn’t have any dips in his tennis throughout the whole tournament of the US Open or throughout the whole of the Australian Open.

Mats Wilander told Eurosport

Sinner is set to lock horns with Daniil Medvedev in his next group-stage match at the ATP Finals. He kicked off his campaign in a dominant fashion with a straight-set win over Alex de Minaur and continued his winning ways in his next clash with Taylor Fritz.

Alcaraz is 1-1 at the ATP Finals and has a daunting task in front of him in the form of Alexander Zverev to stay alive in the tournament. Djokovic, who is the defending champion, is not playing at the year-end event as injury forced him to withdraw from it.
