Jannik Sinner’s Paris Olympics participation may be at risk after he could not travel to the French capital as planned due to illness. The Italian, who won his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open and became the World No. 1, was one of the stars expected to take part in the Summer Games.

The 22-year-old was recently in action at Wimbledon, where he made a quarterfinal exit after losing to Daniil Medvedev. He was expected to lead Italy’s charge for a gold medal at the Olympics in France.

Alcaraz will make his Olympics debut on the courts of Roland Garros, where his biggest rivals remain Novak Djokovic and fellow debutant Jannik Sinner. Since the beginning of the season, Djokovic has spoken about the importance of the Olympic Games and the elusive gold medal.

The Serbian is yet to win a title this year and will need to be at his best if he wants to go all the way in Paris. Sinner is also in the mix of contenders at the Summer Games. He helped Italy win the Davis Cup recently and will be confident about fighting for top honors once again.
