At WrestleMania 38, Steve Austin ousted Kevin Owens in an impromptu match that was his first since 2003. Stone Cold hasn’t stepped back inside the squared circle to wrestle since that point on, but the ship hasn’t sailed, apparently. As per Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, ‘The Texas Rattlesnake’ told a number of people around WrestleMania 41 weekend in Las Vegas that he might have one more match left in him.

A few months ago, Austin underwent a total knee replacement. It seems like the 60-year-old wrestling great is feeling at his best again. WWE had approached ‘The Bionic Redneck’ for potential roles at WrestleMania(s) in 2023 and 2024, but the former six-time world champion reportedly turned down the overtures made to him on both occasions.

Austin finally made an appearance at WrestleMania 41, which was his first on WWE television since beating Owens in Arlington at the AT&T Stadium. But what happened in Vegas on WrestleMania Sunday was nothing short of a misadventure for the WWE legend. He initially faced difficulty in getting his ATV on the wide ramp to drive up to the main entrance stage.

That wasn’t even comparable to what was about to unfold in a matter of minutes. Just when Austin reached the ringside area and was driving his ATV around the ring, he inadvertently crashed it into the barricade. Some front row peeps were definitely affected by the sudden blow. WWE president Nick Khan came down to check on the fans in what was seen as a kind gesture from the company higher-up.

What did Steve Austin decline to do at WrestleMania 41?

In Steve Austin’s catastrophically eventful outing at WrestleMania this year, things could’ve gone haywire even more if he’d agreed to Logan Paul‘s offer for him. The Maverick offered him to dress up as a PRIME bottle in exchange for $1 million. ‘The Baddest S.O.B.’ on the Planet turned it down, thinking it wasn’t a great fit for someone like him.

At one point, there were rumors of Austin coming to the aid of Cody Rhodes on the same night as he was supposed to take on John Cena, who had gone rogue thanks to The Rock. Everyone was under the impression that ‘The Final Boss’ would get involved in the Rhodes vs. Cena finish only to be opposed by his career-long rival, Austin. But in reality, The Rock didn’t even show up to the event.

The Rattlesnake was earmarked to stun The Brahma Bull during the night two main event featuring Rhodes and Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE title at WrestleMania 40. Since Austin didn’t agree to it, The Undertaker had to fill in his void, and he ended up choke-slamming Rock. That moment had the Lincoln Financial Field shaking to its core.

Is the long-awaited Steve Austin vs. CM Punk match finally a possibility?

With the news of Steve Austin contemplating getting one more match off his chest, the obvious follow-up question would be regarding his potential opponents. While it could be a young star whom Austin might want to pass the torch on, there’s one more fascinating prospect: CM Punk.

Shortly after the latter’s miraculous return to WWE in 2023, a report from Fightful claimed that the idea of Austin vs. Punk had been broached internally. ‘The Best in the World’ shares a wholesome relationship with ‘The Texas Rattlesnake.’ Austin even texted Punk the night he came back to WWE at Survivor Series in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois.

‘The Voice of the Voiceless’ grew up as a big Stone Cold fan. A picture of them posing somewhere in the 1990s often blows up on social media. Who knows what magic they could create for the fans if the stars align for them to work a program together in the foreseeable future.
