A promising sequel to John Cena and Cody Rhodes‘ underwhelming WrestleMania 41 showdown is set to unfold at SummerSlam. The goodwill of their feud is hinged on how they would fare at ‘The Biggest Party of the Summer’. Also, many fans were wondering if Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would play a part in it or not.

As per BodySlam.Net, there’s no indication within WWE that ‘The Final Boss’ will make a return to the company anytime soon. That being said, the chances of the Black Adam star’s potential SummerSlam appearance are slim. The last time he was on television was at Elimination Chamber earlier this year, where Cena turned heel for the first time since 2003.

In fact, it was Johnson whom he sold out to. Their unholy alliance was the talk of the town for quite a while. However, as weeks progressed, the unexplained absence of ‘The Great One’ from WWE programming started to bother the audience, and his WrestleMania no-show was the final nail in the coffin. WWE wanted its fanbase to believe that he sent his aide, Travis Scott, to help ‘The Cenation Leader’ win his seventeenth world title.

Scott’s Mania run-in piqued everyone, including Drew McIntyre, who recently lambasted the rapper for ruining the WrestleMania main event. Apart from that, it was alleged by wrestling pundits that The Rock threw Triple H under the bus by opting out of the company’s biggest storyline heading into their greatest spectacle of the year. Johnson, on the other hand, stated that he didn’t walk down that aisle in Las Vegas so that the spotlight could stay on Cena.

Has Cody Rhodes made up his mind regarding The Rock’s previous offer?

The ultimate motive of The Rock’s previous return to WWE in late February this year was to push Cody Rhodes to the limits and see if he’d break. In spite of the Jumanji actor’s relentless efforts, ‘The American Nightmare’ stood his ground and brazenly rejected his offer to sell his soul at the Elimination Chamber.

In kayfabe, that decision cost him the Undisputed WWE title at WrestleMania. Rhodes mentioned on last week’s SmackDown that he didn’t flinch when ‘The Final Boss’ came back to demand his soul while addressing his upcoming title bout with John Cena.

The ex-AEW EVP had previously mentioned that no matter if he declined it the last time around, The Rock’s offer for him was still on the table. And guess what? It seemed as if the erstwhile Stardust had something up his sleeve last Friday. A number of fans on social media noted that Rhodes was wearing the same glasses as ‘The Final Boss’ did on Raw’s Netflix debut episode.

In addition to it, ‘The Prodigal Son’ had the same watch on his wrist that Johnson posted on Instagram the day of his return to SmackDown in New Orleans. All these things were scrutinized to conjure up a theory that Rhodes’ heel turn might be a real possibility. Not that long ago, the 40-year-old said that he’s on the tail end of his baby face run in WWE.

The Rock gives an update on The Smashing Machine’s world premiere

One of The Rock‘s biggest filming ventures to date, The Smashing Machine, will hit the theaters on October 3. It’s a life biography of Mark Kerr, who was posthumously inducted into the 2025 UFC Hall of Fame by ‘The Great One’ himself. Moreover, Kerr’s biopic, as announced by Rock, will have its world premiere at the 82nd International Film Festival in Venice.

The Hollywood mogul thanked everyone for their support and confirmed his presence for the event. The Rock had taken a hiatus from WWE to film the movie last year. It was believed that he’ll return to the squared circle once that commitment gets fulfilled. He even hurt his elbow while shooting, but the injury didn’t land him in serious trouble.

Johnson’s stunning comeback at Bad Blood in October was his first WWE appearance since wrapping up The Smashing Machine. Things from there started to go haywire in terms of his wrestling future with WWE. It has now come down to a point where there’s no certainty about his re-emergence on TV.
