The Italian commenced his campaign in New York with a four-set win over American Mackenzie McDonald. He then beat Alex Michelsen 6-4, 6-0, 6-2 and Australian Christopher O’Connell 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 in subsequent rounds.
The Italian’s first major test was against American Tommy Paul. The Queen’s Club Championships winner fought hard but ended up losing 7-6(3), 7-6(5), 6-1 in the fourth round. Sinner dropped a set against World No. 5 Daniil Medvedev but got past the Russian with a win 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4. In the semifinals, Briton Jack Draper gave him a tough test but Sinner rose to the occasion, winning 7-5, 7-6(3), 6-2 to reach the final.
On the other hand, Taylor Fritz arrived at the US Open on the back of one win and two defeats since winning the bronze doubles medal at the Paris Olympics. He was determined to rewrite the script at Flushing Meadows, winning his opening match 7-5, 6-1, 6-2 against Camilo Ugo Carabelli. He then beat 2021 Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini 6-3, 7-6(1), 6-1 in the second round.
The American breezed past Argentina’s Francisco Comesana 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 to reach the fourth round, where Casper Ruud Fritz came a set down to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2. Jannik Sinner vs. Taylor Fritz: Match Prediction
Sinner and Fritz have faced each other twice on the ATP Tour, with both earning one win each. Fritz beat Sinner 6-4, 6-3 in their first encounter at the 2021 Indian Wells Masters. The Italian then beat 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 the American in the same tournament last year.
On paper, Sinner is the favorite to win with his brilliant record this year. He has won 54 of his 59 matches this season and has lost only seven times since the 2023 US Open. Meanwhile, Fritz has a 44-16 record this year.
