Home favorite Emma Navarro is seeking to reach her first Grand Slam final at the US Open. She will square off against Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals. This season has been a breakthrough for the American and she has reached the second week of three major tournaments this season.
Sabalenka is on a ten-match winning streak. Before arriving for the US Open, she beat Iga Swiatek in Ohio in the Cincinnati Open semifinals. She went on to win the title defeating Jessica Pegula, and is seeking her third career Grand Slam and second major title of the season.

Emma Navarro began the year brightly. She won the Hobart title beating Belgium’s Elise Mertens in three sets. She consolidated the form to reach the third round of the Australian Open. Despite an inconsistent run from February to April, she earned her biggest win at Indian Wells, beating Sabalenka 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 in the fourth round.
Despite a disappointing Paris Olympics campaign, she impressed at the Canadian Open. The American reached the semifinals before losing to eventual runner-up Amanda Anisimova 3-6, 6-2, 2-6. At the US Open, she had a comfortable victory over Anna Blinkova and Arantxa Rus before upsetting Coco Gauff. She beat Paula Badosa 6-2, 7-5 to earn a place in the semifinals of the US Open.
On the other hand, Aryna Sabalenka began the season reaching the final of Brisbane and successfully defending the Australian Open title. Despite not winning any title several months after that, she did well to reach the final of the Madrid and Rome Open, losing both titles to Iga Swiatek. After struggling to perform following a shoulder injury she hit her best form at the Cincinnati Open.
She staged a revenge against Swiatek in in straight set and went on to do the same to Jessica Pegula. At the US Open, she had a dominant victory over Priscilla Hon and Lucia Bronzetti in the opening rounds before coming from behind to beat Ekaterina Alexandrova 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the third round. She beat Elise Mertens and Qinwen Zheng in straight sets to get into the semifinals of the US Open.

Navarro and Sabalenka have met each other twice in their career, both taking place this season. Navarro won the first meeting 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 in the fourth round of Indian Wells before Sabalenka returned the favor, winning 6-2, 6-3 in the fourth round of the French Open, sharing their head-to-head record 1-1.
The American ace has been an exciting player to watch at the US Open, but her record has shown a lack of consistent tempo on the court. On her best day, she could beat any player but that may not be the case when she meets Sabalenka. The Belarusian star has one thing in mind which is to win the US Open. She lost the title last year to Gauff and would be seeking revenge when Navarro comes in her way to the title.
