It was Federer’s first visit to the stadium since retiring in 2022. He didn’t compete at the US Open in 2022, playing his last official Grand Slam match at Wimbledon. Federer first enjoyed the Sabalenka and Zheng match, which the Belarusian won in a straight set.

Dimitrov, who beat Andrey Rublev on Sunday (September 1) to reach his first US Open quarterfinal since 2019, saw his strong run come to an end against Tiafoe. The American was leading 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-3, 4-1 before Dimitrov retired due to an issue with his leg.

After the match, Tiafoe was asked for his thoughts on Federe’s presence in the stands. The World No. 20 expressed love for the 43-year-old’s looks and called him a legend of the sport.

The way he looked in the suit was the same way he looked when he was playing. No sweating. T-shirts ironed perfect, hair perfect. What’s up with this dude, man? Hair perfect. So it was just funny man. I give him crap about that all time. But what a guy, what a legend.
Frances Tiafoe said during his US Open press conference

Tiafoe will face his compatriot Taylor Fritz in the All-American men’s singles semifinal at the US Open. Fritz leads their head-to-head 6-1. Both players will be hoping to come out on top and reach their first Grand Slam final.
