The hardcourt tournament has its own struggles. It has the best of 5 sets for men’s rounds and the hot weather in the US adds on to be another strain.

Piatti said, “The US Open is a very long and tiring tournament. The weather conditions, the duration and the hardness of the matches can have a big impact, but Djokovic and Thiem both have enough experience to know how to handle this type of situation,”

Every year the US Open witnesses a number of withdrawals as players cannot survive till the end of the season to play a match that may go on till the 5th set. Others withdraw due to injuries. However this year the main reason for withdrawal from the tournament was the coronavirus pandemic.

The Italian went further to describe the reasons for his support to the duo. He stated that Novak and Theim can take the heat of a summer day and even go on to the fifth set in any match. Moreover, he believes despite such struggle in a match they will return afresh the next day.

“I’m not just talking about the games but also about everything that can happen off the court. There may be a time when you win a match 7-5 in the fifth set on a very hot day and need to recover when your next opponent may have won by giving up and are very fresh. People like Nole or Dominic are way ahead of others in dealing with these problems,” Piatti continued.

The duo faced off in the finals at the Australian Open. Novak won 6-4, 4-6, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 over three hours and 59 minutes. They are scheduled to participate in the Western and Southern Open next week.

“In my opinion, Novak Djokovic and Dominic Thiem are the main candidates to win the US Open, I think they will use Cincinnati as a practice tournament. Thiem has improved a lot during the period of the pandemic, he has trained a lot, he is in great shape and therefore I believe that they are the two most qualified to qualify for the final.” Piatti said.

The US Open is scheduled to commence from the 31st of August at New York.
