Penn State Nittany Lions offensive lineman Vega Ioane won hearts on Saturday with a positive gesture amid a crushing defeat to the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Washington-native ignored the verbal barrage from the Buckeyes fans to help out a college staffer during a moment of duress.
Vega Ioane spotted a single individual pushing a heavy equipment cart up a ramp after the game ended, and he decided to jump a wall to help the guy with his task. In that moment, Ioane chose to pursue a kind act despite being heckled and abused by the Ohio State fans.
The gesture has definitely won hearts and his choice to be kind amid a disappointing result for his team.

The Nittany Lions have been on the receiving end of misfortune this year. Heading into the game against the Buckeyes a couple of days ago, the Nittany Lions were 3-4. The Buckeyes, who haven’t dropped a game this season, were definitely considered the favorites. 20-year-old Julian Sayin threw for four touchdowns and 316 yards while completing 20 of his 23 passes to push the Lions back to 3-5 and keep the winning streak alive and perfect despite these tough schedules.
The Nittany Lions’ started the season with three back-to-back wins against Nevada Wolfpack in late August, followed by wins against the FIU Panthers, and Villanova. From a 3-0 start, their fortunes dropped with five consecutive losses, including the one against the Buckeyes.
This run of poor results started against the No. 5 Oregon Ducks, who edged them out at Beaver Stadium for a 24-30 win in overtime. The unranked UCLA Bruins secured their first win of the season the following week. The Northwestern Wildcats and the Iowa Hawkeyes defeated them in the two weeks following the Bruins’ loss. The Buckeyes finally pushed the Nittany Lions to their fifth consecutive loss.
The Penn State Nittany Lions suffered on both sides of the ball against the Ohio State Buckeyes
There were quite a few issues with the Nittany Lions in their crushing blowout loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes at the Ohio Stadium in Columbus. It was confined to one side of the ball; either the offense or the defense needs some serious work.

The Penn State Nittany Lions were not able to contain the Buckeyes’ wideout duo of Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate. Smith and Tate combined for a total of 11 receptions, 247 yards, and three touchdowns. Lions’ interim coach Terry Smith, who was promoted following the firing of James Franklin, admitted the flaw in containing while gushing over their performance.
They’re the two best guys in the country, just watching these guys live. I don’t mean this disrespectfully to the past Ohio State receivers; these two are better than all of them, and those guys are all good. So they put it on film, and they were outstanding. Today, we could not cover them.
Terry Smith said

Meanwhile, the Nittany Lions’ receiving room was dull. They could only scrabble up seven catches, 69 yards, and zero scores. This specific skill position has been a headache for several Penn State head coaches, and Smith’s first experience with them was no different. It wasn’t just the lack of receivers, but the passing game on its own was lacklustre.
The major letdown, however, would be the defense. After all, their biggest move this offseason was snatching their former guy, Jim Knowles, from the Buckeyes. Knowles and the Lions are unranked while his former team is No. 1, chasing a back-to-back national championship.
Even with Knowles having an idea of the Buckeyes, he wasn’t able to fine-tune his defensive unit to withstand the Buckeyes’ offensive pressure. They steamrolled the Lions, erupting for 480 total yards.
The schedule next week isn’t smooth sailing. They have the No. 2 Indiana before things calm down with lighter matchups. The season might have slipped from their hands but they can still get away with a positive result.
