Veronika Kudermetova calls herself a ‘very ambitious person’; considers Roger Federer & Serena Williams as GOATs

23 year-old promising Russian, Veronika Kudermetova is one of the reliable rising stars on the WTA tour. Currently parked at the No.46 spot, Kudermetova achieved her career’s highest singles rank of No.38 last year in February.
The Russian delivered impressive performances in 2020 before she entered 2021 to produce a stunning show at the WTA Abu Dhabi Open, finishing as the runner-up. The youngster is believed to bear the uniqueness to announce herself in the top 10 and make her mark in women’s tennis sooner rather than later.
In an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda, Veronika Kudermetova spoke about her goals for the new season and her chances at the upcoming Australian Open. The Russian also revealed that she considers Roger Federer and Serena Williams as the ‘Greatest of All Time’ in men’s and women’s tennis respectively.
‘I looked up to Maria Sharapova when I was young’ – Veronika Kudermetova
After pulling off her spectacular run in Abu Dhabi where she lost to in-form Aryna Sabalenka, Veronika has stated she believes she is a highly ambitious person who has a list of expectations to fulfil during her journey.
“But I have to admit I am a very ambitious person, so I have very high expectations from my tennis career,” said the Russian.
The Abu Dhabi Open has definitely instilled the 23 year-old with a lot of confidence to keep working hard and maximize her potential; when asked if she ever tried to model her game based on any specific player, the Russian replied saying,
“I looked up to Maria Sharapova when I was young.”
Veronika has expressed hopes to step foot into the upcoming Australian Open with a sound physical and mental health coupled with strong confidence. The young Russian further would want to keep up the intensity and hard-work during her quarantine days in Melbourne in order to give her best on the main days.
Serena Williams and Roger Federer are the GOATs for Veronika
Although an admirer of seven-time Major Champion and former World No.1, Justine Henin; Veronika labels Serena Williams and Roger Federer as the Greatest of All time in men’s and women’s tennis respectively.
When asked about the GOAT on the women’s and men’s side, the Russian said, “Serena Williams and Roger Federer, but I also liked Justine Henin a lot.”
Speaking about competition on the tour, Veronika stated that she regards her Abu Dhabi title clash opponent, Aryna Sabalenka as the ‘hottest player’ on the tour however, the Russian also feels that many young players are coming up and showing their big potential and that they would eventually push each other to do better.
