“That’s terrifying” – Victor Wembanyama claiming to be only ‘15%’ of his prime in NBA rookie season has fans riled up

Victor Wembanyama

Victor Wembanyama given his talent and physical abilities always had the potential to be great. However, no one would have expected the speed he has progressed. Wrapping up the regular season, where he’s the outright favorite for the Rookie of the Season, he admitted to not even operating at his full potential yet to the shock of many. French journalist Theo Quintard reported on the same.

He spoke to the French media on Sunday after the Detroit Pistons game about his current level compared to where he sees himself in the future. Wemby had an honest but bold take on his performance so far.

I would say that I am currently at 15% between my first NBA game and what I hope will be my prime.

Victor Wembanyama, in his rookie season, has averaged 21.4 PPG, 10.6 RPG, and 4.0 APG, alongside a field goal percentage of 46.5%. Compared to the rookie season of arguably the GOAT of the game, LeBron James, Wemby did have a better rookie season. Moreover, going by his alleged “15% mark”, the league should really be afraid of what “The Alien” will become when he gets to at least 40%.

However, the only stain on his nearly perfect season has been the abysmal season of his team, the San Antonio Spurs. If the franchise can find a way to get quality players to complement Wemby’s skill and build the team around him, there is a possibility for him to be considered in the NBA GOAT conversation sooner or later.

Fans react to Victor Wembanyama’s ridiculous comments on his current NBA level

Netizens were shell-shocked when it was reported that the presumptive 2024 Rookie of the Year, Victor Wembanyama, feels he is at 15% after an incredible rookie season. Yet, this has seen him break and create several records despite being in one of the league’s worst teams this season. It’s fair to say modesty isn’t his best quality.

Popular social media platform X experienced a frenzy when the comment flooded the internet. One user, @Dukeof Zamunda, wrote, “That’s terrifying.”

However, netizens and critics alike believe that there is much room for improvement for the young star. First, he has to deliver a better performance for the Spurs next season, as great players are defined by what they have won and not just by filling stats.
