Victor Wembanyama made his much-awaited return after missing the last 12 games with a left calf issue in the 2025 NBA Cup West Semifinal against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday night in Las Vegas. The French sensation came off the bench and provided some much-needed offense for the San Antonio Spurs, scoring 22 points to go along with nine rebounds and two blocks in under 21 minutes.

In one of the games of the 2025-26 season, the Spurs dramatically beat the NBA champions 111-109. It was the Thunder’s only second loss of the season, who were on a 16-match winning streak coming into the match. Victor Wembanyama, along with Stephon Castle and De’Aaron Fox, scored a team-high 22 points. While for the Thunder, reigning league MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored a game-high 29 points.

The French center has been on a rampage this season till his injury and is averaging 25.8 points, 12.6 rebounds, to go along with 3.5 blocks per game.

The win propelled the Spurs to 17-7 for the season and to fourth place in a highly-contested Western Conference standings. The Spurs will take on the New York Knicks in the final of the third edition of the NBA Cup after the Knicks took down the Orlando Magic 132-120 in the East semifinal.

Towards the end of the fourth quarter, with eight seconds left, Chet Holmgren missed one out of two free-throws. The miss brought out a reaction out of the number one pick of the 2023 NBA draft. This is not the first time that the Spurs center has been animated on the court, as earlier this season, he had a heated exchange with Draymond Green, which delighted the fans.

The free-throw miss proved to be an important one as the Thunder were down 108-105 and could have cut the lead down to one. But in the end, it will be the Spurs who will be playing in their first NBA Cup final in Vegas.

The internet could not control their reactions to Victor Wembanyama’s roar

Fans are often thrilled when players display their emotions on the court and it was no different on Saturday night. Here are some of the reactions from fans:

Chris Paul and Victor Wembanyama hug it out

Future Hall of Famer and one of the greatest point-guards to ever play the game, Chris Paul, was unceremoniously cut-off from the Los Angeles Clippers a few days ago, much to the disappointment of the fans. It was Paul’s second stint with the Clippers after spending the last season with the Wemby and the Spurs.

The 40-year-old attended the game between his two former teams in Vegas. After the big win for the Spurs, Wemby went over to Paul and hugged it out with his former teammate, showing respect to the veteran guard.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the 12-time NBA All-Star after his anticlimactic end with the Clippers. But fans will be hopeful that they get to see more of Paul as he announced that the 2025-26 campaign will be the final chapter of his illustrious career.
