Victor Wembanyama is ready to take over the league next season. Drafted by the San Antonio Spurs with the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, Wembanyama has already established himself as one of the NBA’s best players after three seasons.
After a slow preseason start, including three straight losses, the Spurs ended their losing streak against the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday. They added another win Friday night, posting a convincing 126-97 win over the Sacramento Kings at the Frost Bank Center.
The Spurs dominated from start to finish. Wembanyama clocked a little over 17 minutes but was an unstoppable force on both ends of the court. He ended his night with 14 points, eight rebounds, two steals, and two blocks.
The Spurs center had a highlight moment in the first two minutes of the game. He blocked a dunk attempt by Domantas Sabonis before finishing a coast-to-coast self alley-oop off the backboard. The whole move saw the arena erupt as Wembanyama stamped his authority early in the game.

While he may have fallen short in the NBA Finals a few months ago, the French international is coming off a historic 2025-26 campaign. Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs to a second-place finish in the Western Conference standings and booked a place for them in the playoffs for the first time in seven years, and also became the first-ever unanimous Defensive Player of the Year.
In his first postseason, he broke several records and led his team to the NBA Finals. In the end, their lack of experience showed, and they were beaten in five games by the New York Knicks. However, Wembanyama and his teammates will be looking to go one step further next year.
