Caio Borralho and Jared Cannonier recently had a viral-worthy showdown. Borralho came out on top with the victory over Cannonier along with a nasty scar. He addressed it at the post-fight press conference when the entire internet saw blood trickling down from under the Brazilian’s eye. Here is what happened:
Caio Borralho secured a significant win over Jared Cannonier at UFC Vegas 96. The Brazilian was talking about how he and his team had predicted everything that Cannonier was about to do. This was when blood started trickling down the Brazilian sunglasses. He removed it to reveal the scar Cannonier had left him under his eye.
How you guys think? It's a good cut, its a good scar to tell the history, you know. Show my kid and say 'Daddy worked hard to fulfill your dreams, to provide for the family... It's all good, all good.Caio Borralho at UFC Vegas 96 post-fight conference
The two fighters headlined the main event and went the distance for Borralho to ultimately secure the victory via unanimous decision. The judges scored the fight 49-45, 49-45, and 48-46 in favor of the Brazilian. Borralho had Cannonier in trouble multiple times.
Especially in the later rounds, when he nearly finished the fight with a knockdown and a couple of submission attempts. Throughout the fight, Borralho delivered effective low kicks and powerful stikes to keep Cannonier at bay. However, Cannonier also had his moments where he landed some heavy shots and opened a nasty cut on Borralho’s face.
Caio Borralho speaks on a potential fight between Dricus Du Plessis and Sean Strickland
Caio Borralho recently shared his thoughts on the potential middleweight title fight between Dricus Du Plessis and Sean Strickland. At the post-fight press conference, Borralho picked Strickland to win, stating that he believed Strickland had the edge. Although he acknowledged that Dricus Du Plessis has surprised him multiple times before by winning fights against the odds.
Borralho admitted that Du Plessis has an unconventional style. As such, ‘Stillknocks’ has managed to remain undefeated in the UFC despite having what the Brazilian described as “bad technique” and a “cr*zy style.” Borralho found this impressive.
But MMA is cr*zy. I always bet against Dricus and he always wins, so I’m not betting on the next one.Caio Borralho at UFC Vegas 96 post-fight conference
However, Borralho also took a somewhat dismissive tone. He said, “Let them kill themselves, and I’m next,” indicating his focus on being the next title challenger after their potential clash. Now, the South African champion has voiced time and again that he intends to take on Robert Whittaker first before coming to Sean Strickland for a rematch so it will be interesting to see how that plays out for Caio Borralho.
