Jannik Sinner captured the Italian Open title after beating Casper Ruud in straight sets in the final, making it his sixth ATP Masters 1000 victory in a row. He becomes the only men’s player with this specific streak. Hours after the win, he made an exclusive guest appearance on an Italian television program where he was given a standing ovation.
Sinner solidified his place as one of the greatest players of his generation after becoming the second player ever to complete a Career Golden Masters, which consists of winning all nine ATP 1000 events. Only Novak Djokovic has accomplished this lofty feat twice. However, what differentiates Sinner from Djokovic is that the Italian achieved it 7 years younger than Djokovic did.
Sinner had already won titles this season. The record for the most Masters 1000 titles in a calendar year is Djokovic, who won six ATP 1000 titles in 2015. Sinner has plenty of time to beat that record this season. He will be hoping to achieve that at the Canadian Open or in Cincinnati during the North American swing.
After Sinner defeated Andrey Rublev in the quarter-finals of the Italian Open, he beat Djokovic’s long-standing record of winning 31 ATP 1000 matches in a row by reaching a 32-match winning streak. With the Italian Open win, Sinner has extended the streak to 34. As for matches in general, he had won 51 of the last 53 matches on tour.
The Italian Open final triumph against Ruud was his 29th consecutive win this season. The last time the World No.1 lost a singles match on tour was back in February when he fell to Jakub Mensik in three sets. It was his second loss in the space of a month and his critics were claiming he was going through a crisis period.
He has used his performance on the court to silence his critics, while his praise continues to be sung on the court. At the Foro Italico, the crowd kept cheering him after the triumph, and hours later he made a guest appearance on Che Tempo Che Fa hosted by Fabio Fazio. He was given a standing ovation, while ‘We are the Champions’ was played in the background.

With players already arriving in Paris for the Roland Garros, Sinner has admitted that he will disconnect from the sport for two or three days before preparing for the tournament. He suffered a physical scare in the semi-finals against Daniil Medvedev before the match was suspended due to rain.
Jannik Sinner focused on winning the Roland Garros after back-to-back clay-court triumph
Jannik Sinner will be back at the Roland Garros next week without his arch-rival Carlos Alcaraz. 12 months ago, in the final against Alcaraz, he was a game away from victory in the fourth set and had three championship points that he failed to convert. He ended up losing in five sets after a five-hour and 29-minute thriller.

Having won three consecutive clay-court titles this year, he’s the favorite to win the Grand Slam event. He admitted during the aforementioned show that his goal is to win the Roland Garros and that his run in Monte Carlo, Madrid, and Rome has kept him in the best shape possible to achieve that:
I said before the year started that my goal was Paris. What I’ve done here in Rome and throughout the rest of the year is incredible. I realize that, but mentally I know that now I have to do all the right things. It’s good to rest, but also to stay in shape because the most important tournament of the year for me is coming up soon.
Should Sinner win the Roland Garros, he will complete his Career Grand Slam. Alcaraz completed his Career Grand Slam at the Australian Open in January after beating 24-time major winner Novak Djokovic in four sets in the final.
