The 2024 sixth-overall pick hit a big road bump when he suffered his first concussion during week 4’s loss against the Dallas Cowboys. Typically, when an athlete suffers a concussion, they must undergo strict concussion protocol, and it’s rare to see them partying afterward– except in the case of rookie Malik Nabers.
The New York Giants star, who quickly established himself as one of the best pass-catchers in four games, became subject to intense scrutiny when he was spotted dancing and enjoying Travis Scott’s concert this week. Since the concert took place at the home stadium of the Giants, the fans quickly noticed Nabers along with his teammate Isaiah Simmons.
Their videos and pictures from the concert have caused a stir on the internet, as the wide receiver hasn’t been to a single practice session of the Giants since week 4’s game, at MetLife stadium. In one of the clips from Wednesday’s show, which marked the last leg of Scott’s North American tour, Nabers was seen tossing dollar bills on girls while vibing on the rapper’s hits.
This outing has raised many eyebrows, especially when the receiver’s presence in week 6’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals is slim due to his injury. However, a report by USA Today‘s Art Stapleton, revealed that Nabers has passed the stage of concussion protocol where he’s sensitive to light and sound.
Head coach Brian Daboll acknowledges Malik Nabers’ concert visit
This Wednesday night might have provided a much-needed respite for the young wide receiver as he continues to recover from his injury. However, it didn’t save him from being a target of the fans as they questioned his sincerity towards recovering and getting back on the field.
That’s why head coach Brian Daboll was asked about Nabers’ visit to the concert in his recent press conference ahead of the week 6 matchup. “Yeah, I’ll keep that all in-house,” replied Daboll, while revealing that the rookie wouldn’t be on the field this week against the Bengals as well.
Although Nabers is doing light drills, he is not participating in the practice sessions in New York and the team hasn’t revealed the expected date for his return. Considering his recovery, there’s a possibility that he might return to the field in week 7 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
