(Video) Michael Jordan-esque move makes highlight in Lynx vs Liberty WNBA Finals
Courtney Williams resorted to a Michael Jordan-esque move to help the Minnesota Lynx force Game 5 of the WNBA Finals.
Courtney Williams channeled her inner Michael Jordan in Game 5 of WNBA Finals
The WNBA Finals has so far been an electric display of the best women’s basketball that is there to offer. Game four was a similar encounter as the Minnesota Lynx won to tie the series with the New York Liberty. Unlike last time, there was no last-second shot that stunned the crowd. Instead, it was a play involving Courtney Williams that brought a Michael Jordan-esque vibe to the Lynx vs Liberty battle.
The said play happened in the third quarter as the Lynx were struggling to get a shot off. Forward Alanna Smith sent the ball to Williams as the paint area was clogged enough to generate anything. Then with the shot clock winding down, the guard saw an opening appear near the rim. She crossed over the guarding Betnijah Laney-Hamilton to create separation and dribbled into the paint.
But with the much taller and more efficient shot blocker in Breanna Stewart coming over to stop her shot, she had to make an adjustment. That adjustment saw her switch the ball from her right hand to her left and scoop in a layup. The ball hit the glass and landed into the net, all of this while Courtney Williams was still in the air.

The shot was reminiscent of what Michael Jordan used to do in to enthrall fans. Those mid-air adjustments made it difficult for defenders to impact the play. Just as it stopped Stewart, who was on Williams’ right, was able to stop the ball from going in. This adjustment rendered her defense meaningless as the Lynx pulled a three-point lead.
Lynx vs. Liberty set for Game 5 showdown
The two games at Minnesota showed what either team needs to work on when facing off in Game 5. For the Minnesota Lynx, Napheesa Collier has not played to the level that the world saw in the first two playoff series. They have won games that have seen a combination of efforts from their entire starting five.
On the other hand, the New York Liberty’s two primary scorers, Sabrina Ionescu and Breanna Stewart, were throttled in Game 4. Giving them work to do before facing the daunting Lynx perimeter defense again. But it also brings forth the need for others to step up. The rest of the starters have not shown enough consistency in the WNBA Finals so far.
If either team manages to get back to their best, expect Game 5 of the Lynx vs Liberty to be an electric battle again. With the city of New York cheering their own team, the Lynx will have to step it up a notch. The Game 5 showdown will take place on Sunday, the 20th of this month.
