Treylon Burks announced himself as a Washington Commanders wide receiver with a collector’s item during the Week 13 game against the Denver Broncos. Burks caught a pass from quarterback Marcus Mariota that even made Odell Beckham Jr. shower him with appreciation.

Trailing by six points at the start of the third quarter, Mariota looped a pass up in the air inside the Broncos’ end zone for Burks. Broncos DB Riley Moss shadowed the fourth-year receiver, but Burks used his entire 6-foot-2 frame to pull off a spectacular one-handed catch.

Fortunately for the Commanders, Burks stayed in bounds and cushioned the fall long enough to be counted as a touchdown. A successful one-point conversation gave the home team a slim lead.

This was Burks’ first touchdown catch since his rookie season with the Tennessee Titans. Week 13 of the 2022 NFL season, former Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill threw the AFC South team’s only TD pass to Burks in a 10-35 defeat against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Treylon Burks received praise from an all-time great receiver

The Titans drafted Burks 18th overall in 2022 as the replacement for the outgoing AJ Brown, who joined the Eagles that summer. It was a tall task for the Arkansas graduate to handle, but his college resume indicated his capability.

During his final year with the Razorbacks, Burks had 66 catches for 1104 yards and 12 total touchdowns. However, injuries held back his progress. His list of injuries includes an LCL sprain in his knee, a fractured collarbone, and a few additional bruises here and there.

The Titans gave up on him in October 2025. He cleared his waivers and ended up signing on the Commanders’ practice squad. They first activated Burks ahead of the Week 9 defeat against the Seattle Seahawks and the following week’s loss against the Detroit Lions.

He missed the Miami game in Week 12 before returning to face the Broncos at home. Burks’ one-handed catch attracted the attention of former Giants and Browns receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

OBJ was a superstar in college with the LSU Tigers. He burst onto the scene in the NFL in a 2014 game against the Dallas Cowboys with a similar one-handed snag.

Day of one-handed catches

Burks wasn’t the only player who made a headline-defining catch on Sunday. Earlier in Carolina, Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua made an impressive grab from quarterback Matthew Stafford.

While trailing by three points in the fourth quarter, Stafford targeted Nacua 2 & 10. The pass was headed straight at the Panthers DB Mike Jackson, but Nacua was on hand to snatch the ball right in front of Jackson’s face for a first down.

The Rams lost the game 31-28 as Stafford threw 2 interceptions and fumbled the ball once. Nacua finished with 6 receptions for 72 yards.

Back in LA, the Chargers held a commanding 31-7 lead over the Las Vegas Raiders with less than eight minutes to play. Raiders QB Geno Smith under-threw what looked like a sure incompletion, but second-year tight end Brock Bowers came to the rescue.

Bowers twisted his upper body as low as he could to pluck the ball before it hit the turf for a Raiders touchdown.

Bowers also scored the Raiders’ first touchdown in the game, but his contributions mattered little in the outcome. The Chargers won the game 31-14.
